    John Legend - Once Again

Who else has gotten a hold of this new gem?

I almost think it tops Get Lifted.

From start to finish their is really no weak track, one of the first albums that you can actually put on from start to finish this year, and in a while for me.

Kind of weird that two R&B albums are in my top 5 for the year (the other being Robin Thicke's second album) seeing as though I don't really listen to this genre much.

I have to get this and Robin Thicke's new album.

I don't even really need impressions because I already know I'll love both albums.

I ordered Once Again yesterday from Amazon (10$)...I normally obtain music in other ways, but for artists I really enjoy litening to I have no problem shelling out some cash...and I loved Get Lifted, Legend is probably my favorite musical artist so I had to get this...I was going to pre-order it on his site because they had a deal that you got to pick one of his live CDs free...but I missed the deal by one day apparently, but I'll probably get those soon too, even though I have heard a good bit from them. I was also ordering a few other things from Amazon, thatswhy I got it from them instead of somewhere else...but anyway, it left today so Ill have it next week...I'm looking forward to it.

I have both. I havent had a chance to listen to John Legend's all the way through, although it sounded good.

And Robin Thicke, man...I was surprised at how good it came out. I am really enjoying it. Its in heavy rotation. And the ladies LOVE it.

I usually do the same thing but I couldn't wait to hear the new Legend album so...

I'll def be picking it up at Best Buy tomorrow (I think it's out tomorrow).

I read a really good interview with this cat in Rolling Stone. I like his style. I need to check out his music. I've heard of him, but I've never heard anything by him.

I'm definitely going to open my ears and mind to Mr. Legend.

Damn, I didn't know this was leaked already. I'm getting it right now, can't wait to give it a listen. Get Lifted was one of my favorite non-hip hop albums in a long time, hopefully this is as good as you say it is Thrasha.

I listened to it all the way through three times, definitely doesn't dissappoint.

Better than Get Lifted though? We'll have to see, it needs some more time.

I "obtained" it about a week ago, I just didn't care for it too much. I thought his first album was much better. Just my opinion of course. Dude is definitely talented though.

Picked it up last night. I really enjoy it and this is coming from someone who hardly listens to R&B. Great album.

I've been listening to this a ton the last couple days....

                        1. Save Room - love it, great first single
                        2. Heaven - eh, it's slowly growing on me but I find it a lil annoying
                        3. Stereo - probably my least favorite track on here
                        4. Show Me - love it
                        5. Each Day Gets Better - love it
                        6. PDA - pretty damn good, though a bit "poppy"
                        7. Slow Dance - prolly my favorite track
                        8. Again - solid track
                        9. Maxine - okay track
                        10. Where Did My Baby Go - love it
                        11. Maxine's Interlude
                        12. Another Again
                        - pretty good
                        13. Coming Home - love it

This definitely seems like it's an album that will take a while to get into, but it seems like another winner.

I read a review of this album yesterday and I was floored at how much this guy takes the old school approach to soul/RnB. I'm also VERY interested in hearing "Coming Home" as the reviewer said it's very reminiscent of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On".

The first single "Save Room" was described as something that Nat King Cole would do. So needless to say i'll be buying this album. I'll be buying it on tuesday. You'll get my opinion sometime next week.

That's extremely interesting since most of the reviews I've read talk about how Get Lifted had the old school approach, but Once Again is more futuristic and experimental.

                            From Amazon......

It takes guts, if not outright egomania, to abandon your given surname and adopt a loaded one like Legend, but the former John Stephens must have sensed that loftiness would one day be his calling card: Once Again, the follow-up to the Grammy-gobbling, platinum pile-on that was Get Lifted, surpasses expectations. Not that it bears much relation to its predecessor. Again again trots out a stable of talented, modern-minded producers--Raphael Saadiq, Legend comrade Kanye West, and the unsinkable will.i.am--but it's nowhere near as self-conscious about embracing the old-school as the knowing, R&B edge-skimming Lifted. Don't expect a derivative mash of smudgy, nostalgia-filching sounds, though, because despite its retro leanings, what's in store somehow crackles with currency. Call it neo-retro if you must, but never call it unimaginative: first single "Save Room" coasts, drifts, and floats along a ponderous path spiked by a cool keyboard-y crescendo; second single "Heaven" busts out a big, busy beat over a slow seduction; and a couple of selections--"Each Day Gets Better" and "PDA"--are so bright and twirly they seem custom-made for dizzy love scenes or jaunty, sunny-day skips through the park. Maybe the most unusual track is "Show Me," a rock song that pilfers elements of Hendrix and finds Legend climbing a few octaves to sound, weirdly, like Jeff Buckley, but it works: so slippery is its beat and so affecting are its hope-laced lyrics that, oddness aside, it's among the disc's best. Sandwiched as it is among 14 songs that all sound like future classics, that's saying something. --Tammy La Gorce

Whatever the hell you want to call it, it's good.
