Maybe it's just me, but I don't think there would have been riots over O.J. It was only AFTER he was acquitted that O.J. became "attached" to the Black community... Before that, he wasn't like a Jim Brown or anything, where he was championing black issues or anything like that... And with Rodney King, it was a clear cut case... It was on VIDEOTAPE... So to have that go the wrong way, one can understand why rioting broke out; it was like a slap in the face... "Yeah, we know there's video evidence of these cops beating the piss outta this dude, but we're gonna let them off anyway..." Now, with OJ, if any other black people were like me, they were assuming that O.J. was guilty, and going to go about their daily affairs like nothing happened.

Re: OJ finally confesses .......
Yes they would've. Do you have any idea what it was like in L.A. back then? There were riots over Rodney King. Rodney flippin' King.....and he was a nobody. O.J. is/was a polarizing figure. People would've rioted just for the excuse to riot. It was that volatile back then.
But I still don't agree that the DA purposely threw the case.Comment

Re: OJ finally confesses .......
O.J. was a hero in that community and any hint of a racist cop on the force just screamed frame job to a lot of people. It happened within a two-year period after Rodney King and those events were still very fresh in people's minds.
That whole area was kindling and all it needed was a spark to erupt into an out of control fire.
I remember the Marines were on stand-by to go to L.A. to lock that place down just as they had been called in for the Rodney King riots.Comment

Do you realize who Rodney King was? He was a drug-using nobody who was breaking the law. You don't think people would've rioted over O.J.? I am in no way condoning what happened to King, but the guy was a grade A loser with a pretty checkered past.Comment

Re: OJ finally confesses .......
MSNBC has a documentary about it that airs every now and then. They showed some black shop owners crying and yelling that question. They were wondering why they had to have their business attacked. They came from the same area they had and worked their *** off to get what they had.
it's interesting to see the footage now, as I was a kid when it happened.
Let me clear this mess up. What you saw on the news was not an accurate portrayal of what was going on out here. TV screws peoples minds around.
Noone cared much about or talked about OJ simpson. He wasn't even an after thought. It was when Mark Furman jumped in that really pushed the issue.
For years when I was a kid, community and police relations were great. I remember they would drive through, stop alot of the times and go in the trunk only to pull out a box of brand new baseball cards (probably worth a ton now) all of the time.
At some point this turned sour as years went by. Forward to all of the beatings (justified or not) shootings, being pulled over without cause (and to this day some people still don't believe that this stuff went down) until the Rodney King video exposed this.
That wasn't a random happening. It was years that people complained about this type of abuse but never got an ear. Some probably justified, some not.
The riots weren't as they showed it all. There were stores looted, but there were a large amount if not most of the community not looting anything. If you really were out there (which I was able to see some of) there were tons of latinos taking fridge's and furniture from stores... asian liquor stores and swapmeets and such were being looted. Not the entire community and every black owned business on every block.
The media exploits anything they can. I can recall a news anchorman watching from the studio from the copter cam calling people in los angeles hooligans and hoodlums. Totally uncalled for and ignorant to a high degree.
They never mentioned that the freaking police were nowhere to be found. Thing is it wasnt even on every corner. I remember one place being burned, a swapmeet, and that was all, and I dont remember that being an arson case.
For the most part they ignored all of the decent people and the ones who stayed clear. The gangs weren't even as involved as they made it seem. The one idiot who they caught on film was just that, a loser, and is in jail for the same reason.Comment

Re: OJ finally confesses .......
Anybody who felt an ounce of sympathy for crackhead Rodney King need to get their *** kicked a few times by the cops (who BTW have the toughest job around and most of you would be pissing your pants one day on the job as a cop in some of these neighbourhoods dealing with the kind of scum they encounter daily).
King was going like 100MPH down a street, high as a kite, and it was a miracle he didn't ram another car head on or kill a pedestrian, god forbid a child, and what he got was richly deserved. Next time you guys think scumbags like that deserve sympathy imagine it's your child or family member walking down that street and Mr Crackhead decides to get into a car. Anybody with such little regard for human life are beneath contempt.Comment

This thread isn't ending up anywhere good, so I'll put my 2 cents in.
Everytime I see OJ, he's chillin, happy, and lovin life. Do you think he feels any remorse about killing his wife and her boyfriend? Hell, I'm willing to bet right now he's thinking "This is awesome! I can't believe they let me off for killing this b____. And now I'm gettin paid millions of dollars...this can't get any better.""Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment
