    Re: We are #390

I like the idea of one thread where people spam as often as they can in order to move us up the list.

I don't....the last thing we need is for this site to become a bandwidth-hog. Imagine how bad the slow-down must be on most of those garbage sites.

There isnt slowdown, but Gaia has an absolutely terrible interface. I dont think there is any limit to picture size in sigs (its mostly pics of the emo members), and the whole thing is just layed out stupidly.

This is just a hypothesis, but it stands to reason that teenagers and those under 21 have less responsibility. They have less things to take care of during the day. Once school is over, the majority are just killing time at home. With the advent of TV and prevalence of mind numbing activities, kids are trained to have fun indoors in front of screens. Adults have jobs to attend throughout the day, then once they get home, there are chores to address such as cooking a meal, doing the dishes, laundry, et al. There simply aren't enough hours in the day to spend posting tons of messages. This at least, is what it seems like to me when I have a full time job. This seems like a fair assumption to make, especially when considered in bulk.

Assuming this to be true, topics that attract this teenage and young adult crowd are likelier to have a larger target audience. That could explain the massive video game sites getting insane traffic (not this site, this is a niche video game site, which is why we are ranked relatively high).

I'm not entirely positive why forums focusing on anime or whatever Gaia is about attract such large capacity. My best guess would be that out of the entire target audience they are targetting, the majority are one's who enjoy sitting in front of their computer posting messages back and forth with people and being part of an internet community. Out of the entire populace playing sports video games, the majority probably don't give a crap about posting consistently on a message board. We are just the majority who happen to derive some value out of it.

So I'd say the age demographics and the inherent characteristics of the targetted audiences probably combine to explain why sites like IGN, Off-topic, and Gaia are ********ly popular.

By the way, that's also a massively long winded and round-about way of explaining why we are far cooler than those dorkchops.

The topic of this thread is: Finding love/sex as an 'unattractive' woman

I am wondering if anyone out there can relate and give advice...
My whole life I have been told that I am unattractive, from elementary school onward. I have extremely low self-esteem and have been taken advantage of by men, always made to feel that I am 'less than' the 'hotties'. I am relatively svelte/curvy with a nice booty but would probably be considered a 'butterface'. I have a prosthetic eye and despite that I have had it my whole life I still have a hard time approaching men because of it. Just recently I was exchanging sexy emails with a man, sent him my pic and he stopped sending emails, just dropped me(if you are out there go rot in hell...). This sort of thing has happened a few times IRL as well, and it flipping hurts like hell. I am a good, giving, loving spiritual person, educated, multilingual, well-traveled, sensual, have lots of love (and loving) to give the right man, have even been told I have a nice body, why is it so damn hard to find a fuzzbuddy, let alone a husband???

I know I am late in reading this, but I thought this is quite an interesting thread. I cant believe where some of the sites are ranked.
