    NBC to make major changes

    http://www.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-nb...p-tv-headlines

Instead of using the 8 p.m. timeslot to showcase its most popular scripted shows -- such as "The Cosby Show" in the 1980s and "Friends" in the 1990s -- NBC will fill the hour with game shows and other lower-cost fare.

Lower-cost fare basically means reality tv shows.

Most NBC shows may not be good but at least their sports coverage is top notch.

NBC is currently last in the ratings wars these days no?

So this makes perfect sense for them. DEAL OR NO DEAL has been a ratings bonanza but i'm afraid they're going to run that show to the ground just like ABC did with Millionaire.

Reality programming is dirt cheap to produce so even if the ratings aren't that great NBC will still break even or make a bit of money of it.

I despise Deal or No Deal. That One Versus One Hundred show looks interesting though.

How is this going to affect My Name Is Earl and The Office?

I wonder how much TIVO has affected/hurt big networks like NBC/ABC/CBS.

It seems like you have to have a surefire must see live kind of show to have any kind of ratings. Otherwise people who have the ability to Tivo or DVR their favorite shows don't have to watch them live.

they have started adding in those numbers, but that is only for a few people. They don't use the TIVO numbers that they keep themselves.

Agreed, I have no interest in shows like Deal or No Deal that take no skill, no knowledge required, no strategy but just pure luck, IMO.

I think at the Office and My Name is Earl will stay put but some weaker comedies I could see being replaced or moved.

It's a smart move but a few rumored things such as regarding the news department and some shows are looking dumb, but they are just rumors.

I saw a bit of a DOND repeat where this chick in a Curtis Martin jersey was TRULY annoying. She said if she won she'd put a "deal or no deal" tattoo over her arse.

That same lady took the banker's deal late in the show for about $200,000.
