iPod'ing the car

So I recently leased a 2006 Subaru Impreza 2.5i and I would like to buy a new reciever so I can plug in my iPod. I've had a iTrip but am looking for a cleaner sound.

Can anyone make suggestions or point me in the right direction? I've been looking at the Best Buy circulars and they have a free installation deal for recievers $99 and up. The Dual XDM6825 caught my eye, but I have never heard of Dual before. Any impressions or info would be very helpful.

I've checked out PIE but I don't feel comfortable enough in my car audio education to purchase anything online and install in myself.

Any help would be welcomed.

They arent bad. They're no Pioneer or Alpine, but for the money, they arent too bad.

I had an iTrip but due to the poor radio reception in my area, it really didn't work too good for me (I live in a Valley). Would the one that gets hooked up through the car lighter be better? Originally I got my iTrip off ebay for pretty cheap, so you might want to check it out on there.

Could someone tell me what a preamp output is? Does that mean I could buy a cord and hook up the iPod to the receiver? Using the headphone jack?

So those are all my $99.99 options at Best Buy. They have the free installation there, so I figure to take advantage of that. I don't trust myself to try and install in myself.

I've also investigated the FM modulators but they seem to be running $100 including installation and I'd rather get a new CD player if I am going to drop a benjamin.

Any advice would be appreciated.

for Pioneers, you usually have to buy an IP-Bus adapter to hook a rca to 3.5mm cord

Preamp output isnt going to help with the Ipod. All it does is allow you to hook up an amplifier (to give your speakers more power or hook up a subwoofer).

Out of those choices, I would say go with the Dual. It plays MP3's, and has more features than the others, (including a better Ipod option). It wont sound quite as good as maybe the Kenwood or Pioneer, but will still sound better than your factory deck.

DONT buy Dual, whatever you do.

I used to work in a best buy in the car audio, and have installed car stereos, etc.

Stick with Pioneer / Kenwood / Alpine (I myself prefer Alpine, but that's just me) especially with the lower priced models.

Thanks for the advice. A guy at Best Buy told me the same thing about Dual. I ended up going with the Sony 210. It had the AUX up front and I could plug the iPod right in.
