Song sequels – the next big thing?

I was just thinking… they’ve come out with such random big things lately involving media-related things; SIRIUS, blu-ray, HDTV, digital cable, 3D movies… whatever. Do you think that eventually, with the material that we’re running out of, songs are going to have “sequels”? It’s just a very random thing that ran through my head just right now, and I expect many laughs out of it. But, sequels pretty much suck as it is, right? What if songs began to have sequels? Stairway to Heaven 2? UGH!

I apologize for the font... something is jacked up yo.

I liked the music video "sequels" that GNR ran in the mid-90's with "Don't Cry," "November Rain," and "Estranged." I thought that was a cool way to shoot the videos, I wouldn't mind seeing more of those. But sequels to songs? That's kinda weird, but I do like hearing artists doing differnet interpretations of some of their older songs.

Well, so far there have already been album sequels. For example, the Bat Out of Hell trilogy.

Song sequels have been done but very very rarely. Now there have been answer and respond songs tho. That's when one artist does a song and another artist does another song that responds to it.

          An example:

          The Sillhuettes "Get a Job"
          The Miracles "Got a Job"

As you can see this phenomenon was mostly in the 1950s and early '60s.

"Freak-a-leek" by Petey Pablo has an answer song. "Goodies" by Ciara and Petey Pablo.

seems like the best topic to ask but anyone know the "nevermore" song that's always in rotation on KTU103.5? The guy keeps yelling "fly" then it goes into a guitar solo, and it was also played during one of the intorductory promos in this year's WS on Fox. thanks, it's a club/dance song. As for sequels, I consider a remix as close to a sequel as there is.

Am I on crack or are there alot of song sequals on hip-hop? But then again, "the art of storytelling" is a big part of the genre.

No, you're right. There are a whole lot of song sequels in hip-hop and it's been that way for years.

                      Hmm... didn't actually know this.

I think what I sort of meant was for it to become mainstream, like movies. I mean, not SO much, but you know.
