    The Shining (1980)

So I rented this movie for a Popular Culture class presentation. Me and my girlfriend have to make a presentation about this, so we watched it together and my brother knew the Simpsons' made a parody about it and then my mom was home so we all watched it. Me, my g/f and my mom have no idea what we just watched, but my brother is all thrilled about how good a movie it was... I dono, dont see it. The Acting was weiiiiiird, but Jack did make a crazy guy... well done by him on the crazy scenes.

Anyone else watch this? You like it? No? Why or why not?

The Shining is an amazing movie. Such a classic scary thriller. I loved the movie when I was younger and it scared the crap out of me and I love it now when I watch it. It still gives me chills and is a simply great psychological thriller.

By the way, it has an 8.4 on IMDB and is the 64th highest rated movie on the site.

The Shining is my favorite "horror" movie of all time. What really makes the movie what it is, is the hotel itself. That hotel is so big that 3 people living there would make anyone go crazy. That, plus THE TWINS.

                        Bumpage.

I watched this last night and wow, what an amazing movie. Jack Nicholson is the man - such an amazing job in that role.

As a side note, the Simpsons Halloween short based on the movie is hilarious and I couldn't help but think about it while watching the movie.

Yeah, that movie was crazy! Here is what I got out of it.

The shining(as the title suggests) is the ability to see things with your mind and to pick up on negative and positive unseen energy. The Overlook Hotel, was a big bank, if you will, of negative energy. Throughout its history, there were murders and all sorts of perverted activity going on there. The negative people that frequented the place deposited negative energy, that residual energy festered and grew, which caused the place itself to become negative.

Jack, was "called" there by the hotel to be its "caretaker" because he himself was a negative energy receptor, he was the perfect caretaker for the place, as stated in the movie "you were always the caretaker". His son had a positive shine, so the hotel adversely effected him the minute he stepped in the place.

The gist of the movie is that places like people carry negative and positive energy. Those that have "the shine" can see the unseen energy.

Nova, thats what I had gathered throughout the entire film until the "reveal" at the end which throws me off a bit for some reason.

Anyway, as I stated twice earlier, this film is simply amazing. The film is intriguing and just brings you in, thanks to powerful acting by Jack Nicholson and his slow descent into complete madness. Danny is terrific as well and I loved the balance and sense of innocence Shelley Duvall brought to the film to keep it from being over-the-top weird and dark. The atmosphere Kubrick created in the film was terrific. The family had the run of the entire hotel, but I always felt like they were cramped together and didn't have enough space for themselves.
