It's nice to see the trial has reached an end. I suspected it may drag on for many more years.

The Dujail case stemmed from a crackdown against townspeople after a 1982 assassination attempt against Hussein in the town. The crackdown involved the ordered executions of 148 males.

Just wanted to note that quoted portion above is what he is being sentenced for. The facts tend to get caught up, and ultimately lost, in the media fiasco, and thus I suspect there are many that don't know exactly what the hanging sentence comes as a result of.

Hanging seems so uncivilized. I understand it's not the USA, but I just can't agree with any form of death penalty outside of a life-sentence.

That being said, it is their system and considering what he has done, it makes sense that it would result to this.

The trial will, more than likely, drag on longer, as it states.

They said they have no idea how long the appeal's court will take. Could be days, months, years...who knows.

Hanging's too good for Saddam. He wanted death by firing squad, but he'll be hung as a common criminal like Churchill wanted to do to Hitler. I hope his hanging is posted on YouTube.

Btw, I find it unendingly hilarious that Amnesty International of all organizations is upset with this verdict. "Working to protect human rights worldwide," my butt. Who protected the rights of the Kurds, or the victims of the Djuail massacre and Saddam's other atrocities, AI?
