    File Transfer Help

I ordered a new laptop last week and it will be delivered to me tommorow afternoon. I have a lot of files (mainly mp3's and documents) that I want to transfer to my new laptop from my current desktop. I decided to go ahead and purchase a USB cable and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how this transfer will work. Do i just plug it into both computers and a "Shared Folder" shows up ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can't connect two laptops with a USB cable. I would simply recommend getting USB flash drive and putting the files on that and then transfer them to the laptop. This would be the easiest way.

My current computer is a desktop, the new one is a laptop.

If you have a burner, burn the files onto the disc then load them onto your new comp. Or, if the computers are connected to a router, you can share files across that router through shared networks. Of course, you have to enable that option and I forgot exactly how to do that.

Alright, I do have a router to share it over LAN. I have done small files like that before. But Does this mean that i cant transfer at all through a USB Cable ? Files arent able to be transferreed ?

I don't believe you can transfer through USB cable, but if you can share files between the computers on your network, just add your laptop to the network and share the files from your desktop to your laptop. That's the best way to do it for sure.

You can (I think), but you would need a special program for that. Unfortunately I don't think there is one for free.

Easiest thing to do, if you don't have a flash drive, is to burn it on to a CD like matrix said. This also will help you keep a hard copy of your files, just in case something bad happens.

If you have a dvd burner, thats even better because DVD can hold more data, and you won't need to trash a few CDs just to transfer files.

There are also sites online that can store your files. You can then go to your laptop and download them to it. Most of these sites are free, but are limited in space.

If you go to inbox.com, they have 5GB of free storage/email....I don't know if that's enough for ya, but you can make an account there and upload your stuff. Then you can turn around and download it to your new computer. Good luck, man.

THanks a lot guys. I'm defintley gonna consider that website. And maybe ill just end up using my 4 GB Samsung MP3 player and just transfer the files over using that, I don't see any reason why that would not work.
