Yep. Rock and R&B and Pop from this stretch was the best time for each genre.

I mean they had Hendrix/Beatles/Dylan/Marley and the beginning of the Stones, Kiss, U2, and all those bands. So the main arguement came down to 60's and 80's.

Along with U2 (as someone mentioned did not come out in the 60s) KISS didn't come out until 74.

For me though, I gotta go with the 80s, just because that's the time I was coming up as a young kid. I think R&B while not groundbreaking, was on a comfortable cruise. Freddie Jackson, Alexander O'Neal and Cherelle, Levert, Lionel Richie, oh man I can go on. Yeah, I think I will. Rick James and Teena Marie, PRINCE, New Edition, Bobby Brown, The Gap Band (Most underrated group ever), Ready for the World, Surface, The Whispers (they were formed in the 70's but had multiple releases in the 80s), Billy Ocean, and let's not forget the ultimate event happened in the 80s, THRILLER bitches!

BET was formed, Video Soul aired for the first time. It was great, but the whole network went downhill after I stopped seeing Donnie Simpson and Sherry Carter on the air.

Basically, the 80s man. The second being the 70s since my folks played a lot of 'grown folks music' from that era.

                  Re: Music decade battle?

I would say the 70's hands down and for one reason only because back then most music was played on the same Radio Station and not the way it is today with categorized music.

I remember listening to the Temptations, Barry White, The O'Jays, Doobie Brothers, The Stones, Chicago, Boston, Foreigner, The Jacksons etc all on the same stations in NYC.

Black or White, R&B or Rock and even Salsa (Latin) music were all aired on the same station.

I honestly can't say the same for today's music not because it's bad but because it's repeat and processed music. The Stations only play what the Music companies want you to hear over and over again.

I totally agree with you for the fact you mentioned the cure and the smiths. The 80's saw the birth of so many great alternative bands like rem, dinasour JR, galaxie 500, spaceman 3, mission of burma just to mention a few. there are still a lot of undiscovered bands from this era to be explored.

                      Huh?

Stones, Beatles, Hendrix, Dylan, Marley all started in the 60s.

U2 and Kiss started in the 70s.

None of the bands you mentioned there started in the 80s, and of the bands you mentioned, only U2 was a dominant commercial force in the 80s. The Stones were hot with "Tattoo You" in 1981 and "Undercover" in 1983 but cooled off afterward.

                      Take care,
