For the most part, at least during their peak years, the Simpsons relied heavily on pop culture references. A lot of their plots are based on movies and other TV shows.

Correct. I actually did a presentation in college on the cultural references in the simpsons (my presentation was in 1996 I believe). I can't comment on the last couple of years, as my schedule doesn't work with the Sunday episodes anymore....I do consider myself a big fan however (for any big simpsons fans out there, my cat's full name is Rory Calhoun due to the fact he kept standing on his hind legs the night we brought him home).

I haven't seen the movie yet (hell, I haven't been to any movies other than the last Star Wars since my first kid was born), but I'm looking forward to the DVD release.

hell yeah... I still can't get over how many people DIDN'T like the movie. I'm not a big fan of the television show. It has a few funny moments but over the years it grew pretty stale (although I don't think it was very strong to begin with imo)... but the movie was a breath of fresh air.

I probably laughed every 20 seconds throughout the entire movie.

I was told I couldn't pick it up by the wife. I assume that means its a Christmas gift.
