    XBox 360 HD-DVD Question

If anyone has a XBox 360 HD-DVD or knows the answer to this question I'd appreciate it:

If I have a TV that runs 1080i/720p and not 1080p, will the XBox 360 HD-DVD play HD-DVDs at 1080i or will they run at 480p?

The back of HD-DVDs are a little misleading as they state 1080i and 480p/480i capable (with no mention of 1080i).

I happened to be at Circuit City today and a guy brought one out to me and asked if I wanted to by it because they had just received them off the truck. But if I can't benefit from watching DVDs at 1080i then what's the point? I'll just wait until I pick up a 1080p T.V.

    Thanks in advance.

Damn that list...damn it to HELL!

I REALLY don't want to upgrade, but as it stands I have like two dozen plus titles that are on that list and I would LOVE to have them in HD. 'Kingdom of Heaven' is also due out on HD-DVD (didn't see that listed).

The only issue I have is with the extended cuts of some of those films (the aforementioned 'Kingdom of Heaven', as well as 'King Kong'). I hate the fact that not only do I have to buy the same movie again, for more dough, to have it in HD...I'll also have to RE-BUY the same damn HD movie to have the extended cut!

****ing Hollywood! They got me by the balls! Curse my home theater addiction

So tell me EG......will it be worth it?

I've yet to see the difference between a DVD playing at 480p and one at 1080i.

I'm trying to come up with any excuse not to get this thing if you can tell but I think I'm going to lose that battle within a couple of days.

I've yet to see the difference between a DVD playing at 480p and one at 1080i.

I'm trying to come up with any excuse not to get this thing if you can tell but I think I'm going to lose that battle within a couple of days.
You mean a DVD playing at 480p and a DVD being upscaled to 1080i right? There is definite difference between HD DVD movies and upscaled DVDs.

If your going to purchase one, I would do it know cause the free movie (King Kong) is only for a limited time.

I'm going to pick up the player tomorrow night for $160 using this coupon: http://img242.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cc40200zk2.jpg

It worked for many people from the AVS forums.

I was going to buy the Toshiba player instead but the low price and the great reviews of the 360 player sold me.

Sweet deal. I'm pulling for the better technology (blu-ray) to prevail in the long run, but have no problems supporting both for now.

Be mindful, that unless your running your HD-DVD Add-On via VGA, your SD-DVD will play in 480p & will NOT be Upconverted to 1080I like the Stand Alone HD-DVD Players, due to DCMA Restrictions.

I can't compare it to any other HDDVD players since i've never had any other ones, but the 360 player looks amazing IMO. The picture is alot clearer then the movies shown on tv (Batman Begins and MI3 particulary look amazing....). My sound system is outdated but the sound is very clear as well. Also, the upconverted DVD's look solid using VGA. I would definatly recommend it....
