Finally DIRECTV acknowledge that the HD-20 has a Firmeware problem & are working on a fix. A time-table was not given on when this fix would be available.

But that wasn't the straw that broke the camel's back, there NEW "EQUIPMENT LEASING" is what did it.. From now on any equipment you purchase is being LEASED. So if you choose to disconnect your service with them, you have to return any NEW Equipment purchased back to DIRECTV.. F-THAT. I'm not spending $300.00 on an HD-DVR that if I change service has to be returned..

As much as I didn't want to I made the switch to CABLE. The prices kind-of off=set themselves, but man do I miss DISCOVERY HD, HD-NET, HD-MOVIES & NFL Network...
I have an H20, and have yet to have a single problem.

No Sunday Ticket is a deal breaker. Not to mention the price of cable to get the service I get with DTV, customer service, picture and sound quality, etc. I'll never go back to cable again. Ever.

What is the difference between a MPEG2 and 4?

I wouldn't be surprised BK. I live in NYC & the BS I got on why the HD-20 was doing what it was doing wasn't cool. But this NEW LEASING Program is what pushed me.. To tell me any NEW Equipment I purchase must be returned to DIRECTV once I terminate my service is just BS...

Mpeg 4 is used because it has an advantage to squeeze more video quality at the same bandwidth as Mpeg 2.

I have just the receiver. The DVR is hard to come by out here.
                I just have the receiver.

It's all up to the consumer. But for me, I'd rather pay to lease the equipment, than pay to keep it and go back to cable. For me there's no comparison, and that's before you factor in NFL Sunday Ticket, which makes it even more of a no contest decision.

So your telling me you'll shell-out let's say $200.00 for an HD-DVR that you really don't own? Kinda surprising to me. I personally am not in the "Giving Away Free $" business

Yeah, that's exactly what I am saying. 4 or 5 years from now, when I want to upgrade again, what am I going to do with the hardware anyway?

Decision made easier by the fact the cable companies, simply can't provide the services and programming that I want. I'd rather pay for what I want, than pay more for a service that doesn't meet my needs.
