I hope this belongs here...(PC question)

Alright, I know next to nothing about computers, but I've decided that I'd like to start PC gaming some. My question is, would this computer be graphically powerful enough to play most games? I assume it would lag some on games such as FEAR and Oblivion, but would it fit my needs in most games today?

They would run, but you in all likelihood couldn't have the graphics on anything higher than "Medium" detail. The games might even require 1GB of RAM, so you'd immediately have to double your memory, though it's not really that expensive.

Half a gig of ram is very low. I think that video card looks even worse though.

In my experience, first-person shooters/RPGs like FEAR and Oblivion run better than a lot of games. Strategy games where lots of units have to get rendered such as Medieval 2 Total War are the ones that can chug.

What type of motherboard would be included in that system? That's a pretty decent deal. Presarios good at upgrading?

I don't play strategy games. I'd prefer FPS and a few RPG's. I was told games such as CS, Halo, and Morrowind would work on this computer...?

The thing with computers is, they get dated so fast, so you are almost obligated to buy a top of the line model if you intend for it to have any sort of gaming lifetime; providing you intend to play newly released titles, etc.

Ultimately, I would recommend spending more initially on a top end performer, instead of opting to spend less at the cost of frequent upgrades in the near future.

As long as you're talking about CS in HL1 and not HL2, then yeah.

If those are the games you intend on playing you should have no problems.

Ugh, I may just bite the bullet and buy a more powerful system. When you think about price in the long run, it would eventually cost less than needing to continuously upgrade the Compaq.

Dude that's not a bad buy. I build my own systems and I use an AMD 4000+ Clawhammer Core and it runs 90% of my games in HIGH detail.

The only things the system lacks I see is it needs more memory and a good video card which would increase the price dramatically.

Here's a tip go to http://www.cheapassgamer.com, register and read the threads regarding Black Friday. There are some killer deals later this week that will probably dwarf what you were considering.
