    James Bond Ultimate Collection

I'm curious, are these a good deal? I must admit I haven't seen that many Bond films (much less in full) and would, at the very least, like to pick up the Connery Bonds. Although, it appears the collections do not collect the movies in chronological order.

They're definitely worth it. I picked up volume 1 a couple days ago. The picture is great along with the sound. Not to mention the extras.

IGN also gave each volume a 10 out of 10.

I forget which production company it is, but they did a great job with these.

If you haven't seen many, this is probably the best way to go. Personally, I can't stand any of the Bonds other than Connery. I've seen almost every Bond movie, and I don't think it gets better than the first 5 films starring Connery. If/when I go to purchase these movies, I will buy them individually.

The 3rd and 4th volumes are going to come out at the same time, Tuesday, December 12...

I did a side by side viewing of the Ultimate Collection (Goldfinger) w/ the original Special Edition DVD collection of the same movie (released back in 2002 I think, can't remember), and the video was SO MUCH BETTER on the newer disc. The Lowry digital restoration was done very well. I highly recommend it.

I have seen a few Bond movies and decided to snap these up, mostly because of DeepDiscountDVD.com's 20% off everything sale. It runs through Thursday, so I got Volume One and Two for a combined $87.82 with free shipping. Volume 3 and 4 will go on my Christmas list.

I mean $87 for 10 Bond movies, which the new transfer is supposed to be superb? Well worth it, I think.

Don't hold your breath about single issues. As with the 2002 special release I doubt they'll release the discs individually as they know the typical Bond fan are middle aged males who would only buy the Connery movies and some of the early Moore films. That's why they're not released in chronological order, they force you to buy the whole set and the middle aged males don't mind paying for all the sets to get the Connery ones because they tend to have higher disposable income and that way profit is maximized. Much like how Raiders of the Lost Ark is only available in the box set because they know that film would outsell the 2 sequals by a wide margin individually.

You can buy the '02 releases individually tho. I've seen them with my very eyes. Plus I have the individually released SPY WHO LOVED ME.

That's my biggest beef with all of the Bond box sets. If I want to get Goldfinger, I have to buy The Man with the Golden Gun? Barf. And if I want to get all of the Connery movies, I need to plunk down $250+ for all four box sets and own several films that I probably will never watch. That's just downright greedy IMO.

Like SPTO, I have a couple of the older releases, but I've been unable to find some of the ones I really want (OHMSS, in particular).

Do you not Ebay? I just checked Ebay.ca and there's 10 listings right now. I'm sure there's even more on the US side since that would include listings that don't sell to Canada at all.

I do eBay, but my financial situation is a little messed up right now (basically, I have no credit card), which makes it hard because almost everyone does PayPal these days.

I'm not dying for a copy either, so that's probably another reason. Maybe I'm just hoping that the newest editions will push the '02 releases into the 2/$30 rack at HMV.

Sorry to hear about your financial situation and hopefully you can find the movie for cheap. It's interesting OHMSS is probably the hardest Bond movie to find in the stores.

Haha, yeah. I sometimes still feel like a Pittsburgher (even though I've never lived there in the time I've been on this board).

My finances aren't that bad, just that the bank won't let me have a credit card since I'm not a permanent resident. I think I'm probably better off for it in the long run, but it makes things a little awkward at times.

I've never liked how OHMSS gets a bum rap. Lazenby is actually pretty good (I think people went in thinking "I hate him because he's not Connery"), and the story is one of the best of the series (and one of the most faithful to the book). People just don't want to see Bond doing things like showing emotion, falling in love, getting hurt, and so forth, which is why Lazenby and Craig get ripped on by people who would rather go see Vin Diesel in XXX.

These are a great deal and the new transfers are well worth the money.

That said, I have the last collection they released and the next time I repurchase these movies will be on Blu-Ray.

Oh, and I hate OHMSS. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

$250+ ??? Yeah, that would be outrageous. Not sure where you'd shop to have to spend $250 on these sets though.
