    Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread

OK, here's review 1 of the 2 movies I imported from Xploited. (SAW 3 & Reseviour Dogs)

    Picture Quality-4
    Audio Quality 5
    Overall Score- 9/10

1st thing I notice is the Menu System isn't interactive. The Menu System is exactly like a DVD Menu System.(No biggie for me) As you can see the movie comes with a DTS HD Track, which sounds awesome as it uses all the Surrounds nicely & has some pretty good bass from the Sub-Woofer on various scenes.(Mind you I'm running an Add-On via Optical using WMA9 Pro as my Sound Output @ 1.5 kbps)

The picture quality is excellent, but the grain @ times is a little too much. This doesn't happen often, but when it does it is noticable. Blacks are very deep & the Color Saturation seems to be on point..

There was NO Edge Enhancement @ all with this title which was a relief, making the the transfer really smooth even with the Grain. The film is in 16.9 Anamorphic Widescreen (1.85:1)

The movies has some EXTRAS which are in Widescreen & seem to be shot in DIGITAL form.

All & All I am very satisfied with this purchase & would recommend a purchase of this title from Xploited

Thanks Joe, this one looks just as good as the BD version.

Best Buy cancelled my order for Lost this morning. Oh well! I'll wait for ebay to snag it for a lower price.

The Samsung BD-P1400 Blu-ray player is on sale at Amazon for a record low on Blu-ray players: $273.99 and up to $279.99.

What a very good deal for this player as I've read some good stuff about it. Even BD players are getting closer to the $199 price point, only thing is that these players can't be upgraded which is stupid on Sony's part.

As a follow-up to this........retailers have followed suite:

$299 Samsung Player Sets New Low Price Record For Blu-ray

Several retailers have dropped their prices for Samsung's BD-P1400 to $299, setting a new low price record for a Blu-ray Player.

At press time, the new price had been spotted at such major retailers as Amazon.com, Best Buy and Circuit City, as well as several regional chains.

          ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Slayer, do you know if movies that will require Profile 1.1 and later on 2.0, will make this player useless? The movies would still run on this even if they can't use 1.1 and 2.0 profile correct?

I think that this is where BluRay has gone wrong with their hardware.

Amazing picture and sound is high definition to me. I have used some of the PIP stuff with the HD-DVD's, but if I can have PQ and SQ that is better than SD-DVD.....................its enough to make me happy. I have been wanting a BD player at a low price point and this is tempting since I don't want to **** up my PS3 since I watch more movies than play games. I have a 2 yr PRP with Best Buy, but now that their taking out the Emulation out of the PS3's........losing this 60gb wouldn't be a good thing.

I personally think you're way to paranoid. I've watched movies on my 360 since I got it, and watched movies on my PS3 since I got it as well. I don't even have a stand alone DVD player. They are made to watch movies now. The laser is the same, it's nothing different from you watching hundreds of movies on a stand alone.

I'm with you man. I use my PS3, and Xbox 360 for everything. I haven't had a stand alone DVD player in awhile.

I've been reading conflicting reports. The latest unofficial word is that only accessing these special features will be affected. Otherwise, the discs will run. For example, a BD-Live feature may give an error code , but you can still watch the movie.

To be safe, I say get something that has Profile 1.1, for now. I assume they'll equip 1.1 players with 2.0 capable specs to enforce easy FW upgrades to 2.0. A lot of blu-ray standalones have firmware updates available, but not to boost it to 1.1 for most.

Nobody knows for sure about the changeover, and the companies that do, haven't officially said anything yet.

Ok, thanks dude. I'll just stick with the PS3 for now, until some of that is cleared up on the profiles. I was thinking if I really wanted to check out some of these features, I can always pop it in the PS3 if I were to get one of the cheaper BD players.

With CES around the corner, who knows what news lurk.

Candy, I'm reading over at CAG that people are calling Best Buy CSR's and complaining about having a pre-order cancelled for being out of stock (how can a preorder be cancelled? They don't have it in stock yet) and are getting the deal reinstated. I'm going to email corporate and see if that will work. I despise having phone calls outsources to India

I read that yesterday and was going to PM you about it. I doubt I'm even going to try and fight with their customer service. I even deleted the email already.....................I just don't want to deal with CSR's from India because they royally piss me off (sorry if anyone is of Indian descent). I've had some where they were so damn rude to me in the past.
