    Hmmm....looks like I'll have to proceed with caution I guess. Thanks for your help bro. E-Bay has a bunch of them for much cheaper than the normal price, so I'm probably going to look there first.

      It might not be true anymore, but over a year ago it was more cost-effective for me to build my own external hard drive. Got a 300 GB Seagate @ Fry's last year for $69 on Black Friday, and picked up an Apricorn HD enclosure for (I think) $20-25 after rebate. I really like the Apricorn enclosure. Its all-aluminum so it transfers heat better (avoid the enclosures that are all plastic or plastic inside where the HD sits). And it has a nice big, but quiet fan that keeps the HD much cooler than if it was inside my desktop case.

      My advice probably isn't worth much to you if you don't have a Fry's Electronics nearby...

        That's not a bad idea either. I looked at the hard drive enclosures too. They're cool because you can then have multiple hard drives that you can switch in and out for various purposes.
