Question about connecting a 360 to my townhouse room in college...

Hey guys I'm loving my new 360... and I've loved Live, I only have one problem now... and that's since I've brought it back to college I can no longer sign on to Live!

I'm not sure what the problem is, it worked fine in the past for Live on Xbox, but now not so much...

This is what I get when I test it...

    Network Adapter Wired
    IP Address Confirmed
    DNS Confirmed
    MTU Failed

Then when I click on MTU it says this...

MTU Test Status: The connection to the Xbox Diagnostic Server timed out. Please retry this test. If it continues to time out, verify your MTU settings. If your console still does not pass this test, contact your ISP.

This test confirms that your network has a sufficient Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU). MTU is a setting on your router or gateway that can affect network performance. Xbox Live requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364. If your console does not pass this test, you will not be able to sign in to Xbox Live. See your router or gateway instruction manual for information about changing the MTU setting...

But here's the thing, all I have is a wall jack, a cable and a 360... it worked fine when I plugged the ethernet cable in the jack and stuck it in the regular Xbox and played around on Live... why isn't the 360 allowing the same?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Question about connecting a 360 to my townhouse room in college...

I had the same problem with my 360 at my townhouse. Mine worked for a week then I started getting that error. I contacted MS and they said to contact my ISP. So, I call my ISP and they said it wasn't on their end and to call MS. After getting nothing done after a week, I gave up and gave my 360 to my brother.

Let me know if you figure anything out.

Sounds to me like your college may have Xbox Live blocked. I'd see if any of your fellow collegemates are able to use Xbox Live.

Ditto. The school probably has a firewall or some other protection that prevents XBL.

I would agree, but the fact that I can play regular XBOX on XBL in my room from the same exact port kinda makes me scratch my head...

Hmmmm..You might want to ask the administration about this.

good news, I called ITR for my school and they said since the school runs clean access that my xbox was blocked until I gave them my MAC address for the box and they would put it in the system... so it all worked out in the end!
