Re: Top 100 Catchphrases of all time
Kinda strange that some of them are episode-specific. Like the Brady Bunch episode where Marcia broke her nose, or the Mary Tyler Moore episode where Lou Grant says he hates spunk. I thought the definition of a catchphrase was something that was repeated often, like "Hey HEY hey!"Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.
Dash: [muttering] Which is another way of saying no one is. -

I agree completely. The fact that some of those are labeled "catchphrases" is just absurd. Memorable quotes? Sure. Catchphrases? Absolutely not. The fact that ones like these:Kinda strange that some of them are episode-specific. Like the Brady Bunch episode where Marcia broke her nose, or the Mary Tyler Moore episode where Lou Grant says he hates spunk. I thought the definition of a catchphrase was something that was repeated often, like "Hey HEY hey!"
"Do you believe in miracles?"
"I'm not a crook ..."
"Oh, my nose!"
"Read my lips: No new taxes!"
"Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy"
Are on a list devoted entirely to catchphrases is laughable at best.
That aside, however, there are some good ones on there.Comment

I haven't checked the list yet, but if "these pretzels are making me thirsty!" isn't on the list, it's a crying shame, even considering recent events.Comment

-"Optimus Prime? He's jewish?"(Family Guy)
-"Blanche, you're a whore!"(Golden Girls)
-"There's a ******!!!"(Michael Richards)
-"Great, I'm gonna go eat mayonnaise."(Homer Simpson)
-"I need a glass of WA-ter. The liguor is overpowering the BUT-ter!"(Lionel Luthor, again)The New England Patriots cheated to win four Super Bowls.Comment

Re: Top 100 Catchphrases of all time
"Did I do that?" should've been on the list somewhere.
I'm glad to see one of my favourite catchphrases from the 80s made it "Let's be careful out there" from Hill Street Blues. When Michael Conrad died they didn't bother having the new Sgt. say it because it was so closely tied to the Sgt. Esterhaus character.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Top 100 Catchphrases of all time
Too bad the Neil Armstrong quote is wrong. They officially changed that after reviewing an enhanced copy of the original recording a couple of months ago and Armstrong always said he actually stated:http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/TV/1....ap/index.html

"That's one small step for a man."
And where is:

Re: Top 100 Catchphrases of all time
How about all the wrestling catchphrases?
"The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be."
"What you gonna do brother, when Hulkamania runs wild on you?!"
"If you're not down with that, we got two words for ya..."
"Open up a can of whoop ***"
"Know your role, and shut your mouth"
"Jabroni"
etc...Comment

LOL.
