    Satellite Radio Thread.

Can I get a sticky on this? I figure we need one of these since we have an HDTV thread.

So my 3rd favorite(and I only have 3 total..so now 2) station bit the dust this week and went from 100.5 The X to 100.5 WJOX(an ESPN Radio affiliate). So I'm going to quit the free radio and get Sirius radio. I'm going to get it from my grandad for Christmas and need some advice on what to buy.

First off, I'm looking to get the home kit right now. I'll get a Sirius Ready CD player for my Jeep in a couple of months. My budget is <$200. Anyone have a site that offers the best deals? What all do I need? I have a Panasonic Home Theater receiver by the way.

I've had XM in my car for a week now and absolutely love it. Best decision I ever made.

Well I've had sirius since about July or so and I havent had any problems with my radio at all, I've got the Xact Visor for my truck and I listen to it just about everyday. I also have the home kit for it and works flawlessly. You can find the Visor and home kit for well under $200. My father has the Sportster Replay or something like that and he also has the car kit, home kit and boombox. You can prob get that and the home kit (not the boombox) for under $200 as well.

Then there's the Stiletto, which is the portable radio for sirius and it's really kick *** from what I've heard but it is more than $200, Abates has one of these.

I'd just look around sirius.com for the different specs on each and then decide on which is perfect for you. eBay usually has good deals on things but if I recall, abates bought one from there and he said it died not too long ago so yeah.

      Good luck.

If I buy this, what else do I need to have Sirius at home?

Well, I can't speak for at home or whatever, but getting sirius in my car was the best thing I ever did. I bought sirius ready cd player for my car and I decided to get the sirius along with it. I hardly ever listen to CDs anymore and I haven't even touched regular radio in 2 and half years.

I've always wanted to switch to Sirius or XM, but I cannot bring myself to actually pay for radio.

ok, here's some sites that will help you.

www.siriusbackstage.com - Really good message board. All different kinds of threads to talk about programming, the different types of radios, pictures of peoples installed radios, threads for each state, etc etc. Awesome site, highly recommended.

www.tssradio.com - pretty much the best place to find Sirius anything. Won't always have everything in stock, but considering the rate Sirius stuff is selling, it's understandable

www.crutchfield.com - an overall tech store, but lots of good info on satellite radio and what you'll need

http://www.xm-sirius-satellite-radio.com - another good satellite store, with both xm and sirius stuff

husker, hit me up on pm or aim and I'll answer any questions that you have. I've had 3 radios thus far. Bought the sportster replay off of ebay, worked awesome until the screen went out. Then bought the starmate 4 and loved it, but then as Hungry said I got the Stiletto as an early Christmas present.

that's the home kit. you'll just need to run a cable from the back of the home kit to some speakers.

You don't know what you're missing out on. It's like going from analog free tv to HD cable. Don't you think people "couldn't bring themselves to pay for [tv]" when cable first came along? Same deal, only so much better. I never thought I could do it either, but now that I am, I have no regrets at all.

I totally agree BGarret. You can't get Howard Stern uncut anywhere, listen to DJ's spin crazy stuff on hip hop and world famous dj's spin house/trance for hours.

Sybian time on Howard is worth the pay.

Well the home kit comes with an antenna so I'm not sure if you need the outdoor antenna and extension unless you get no signal. I would wait and see if you get can a signal first before ordering.

Well what do you suggest? I have been looking at both and I seem to think that Sirius would be the better deal for me, Much more exclusive sports deals. However I have heard that XM has better sound and coverage. What do most of you guys use? I also gotta say, I am tempted to go with Sirius just due to the fact that their portable players seem real nice.
