Re: EMachines Computer
Please don't get an eMachine. Their computers are some of the worst manufactured computers ever made. I've read and worked with eMachines that have their psu go out (which isn't covered by the warranty) motherboard dies and pretty much anything else that can go wrong with PCs. Just google emachine problems and you'll read alot of other people's reviews on them.
If you're really looking for a good $400 computer, just try dell.com. You can get a fairly decent setup for about 300-400 bucks, with shipping included. Not to mention that when you buy used computers, you normally encounter problems the previous owner couldn't fix.Comment

I had an e machine that worked quite well for 6 years. I have also heard some not so good things about Dells, so it goes both ways.Washington State University Cougars

Re: EMachines Computer
my brother got a Dell laptop - had to get it fixed numberous times due to different problems (cracked screen, bad motherboard, etc).. their customer service either made him wait to get it fixed or would often schedule service calls at the worst times..
computers are computers.. they all have good & bad sides.. but be careful about a used computer.
EMachines are made by Gateway now...Comment

Re: EMachines Computer
I guess I was wrong about eMachines. But honestly, I'm an IT and most of my coworkers come to me when they have problems with their home machines. I've seen about 3-4 eMachines that have gone bad, and with each one I've seen reported incidents that were made because of a bad build. So imo, they aren't the best computers. But then again, I've never had one myself, and the people that did give me their eMachines to check out, didn't tell me exactly what they were using it for. I guess its best to go with what other eMachines owners have said.
And I never knew Gateway bought them, maybe thats why they've been a better company than what I originally read about them.
Also, I didn't mean in my original post that Dell computers are better than eMachines. I used Dell because they have a very good customer service. So if for some reason something does go wrong with the computer you bought, you can just call Dell to have them take a look at it. Whereas buying from Ebay... well you get what you paid for.
Here is one of the sites I was looking at:

Re: EMachines Computer
I've had a Emachine for almost 4 years and nothing has happened to it except upgrades which I performed(video card/RAM) Now,that being said-I had a "top of the line" HP that was a complete piece of crap. Major hard drive faliure after a year! I also know someone that had a HP and his HD went out within 6 months. 2 more HP problems-fans going out by 2 people I know-one took the processor with it. Both rigs were less than 2 years old. Now maybe that's just dumb luck because most people I know HAD HP's-nonetheless-either you got a good one or not? For the most part,Emachines are bare bones computers, but they ARE fully upgradeable and are a good choice for a off-the-shelf rig IMO.ByurrulzIdon'tfollowComment
