As Omar said in Season 1: "Come at the king, you best not miss."

It appears that the Golden Globes don't have the balls to come at the king, which is "The Wire." Once they do, they best not miss.

Michael Ealy deserves best actor in a mini-series for his work in Sleeper Cell. I think Oded Fehr deserves a nomination for best supporting actor in a mini-series for the same show. Great show by the way.

I will totally agree and I will state that I haven't seen many movies this year either. Hypocritcal? Maybe but I don't get a chance to go see many movies any more due to a young family and there are few previews out that really interest me enough to make arrangements to go see a movie. When we do go see a movie, there never seems to be anything interesting playing. Maybe its the lack of marketing along with tons of remakes and sequels that have soured me on the movie industry right now.

I prefer action flicks or comedies. I really enjoyed Little Miss Sunshine but it seems any half-assed comedy like Wedding Crashers gets labeled great since there is no competition. Thank goodness for Spiderman 3 next year.

            Re: Golden Globe Nominations

I would rate the best picture nominees...

            Drama:

            1. Babel
            2. Little Children
            3. The Departed
            4. The Queen

            Bobby (haven't seen)

            Comedy

            1. Little Miss Sunshine
            2. Borat
            3. Devil Wears Prada
            4. Thank You for Smoking

            Dreamgirls (haven't seen)

The only one of these movies that I would consider great is Little Miss Sunshine so I do believe it was pretty weak year for movies especially since I can't think of any films that were totally snubbed out of a nomination. Actually, I think Over the Hedge definitely got snubbed, but "Best Animated" is kind of a "who cares?" category for me.

"The Wire" is the best show on television, but tv nominations are always messed up so I don't think it's worth crying over.

then you need to find yourself a copy of the season one box set of the Wire and find out what youve been missing.

If you like "crime dramas" then it doesnt get any better than that show. Actually, even if you dont like "crime dramas" but you just like really good storytelling, then you should watch The Wire (again start with season 1, it builds up like a novel so i wouldnt recommend jumping in with one of the other seasons before youve seen season one)

I think there's a rather large factor keeping the Wire from being acknowledged, something I'm loathe to bring up. But sad and unfortunate in this day and age. Especially when a similar show like the Sopranos (a great show in it's own right) receives tons of accolades and awards
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Bring it up, please. Because I'm just baffled how "The Wire" gets no nominations.

Is it a David Simon conspiracy? Simon wrote the book upon which the brilliant "Homicide: Life on the Streets" on NBC was based, and it didn't get many Emmy nominations until near its untimely end as a series.

Or is it the subject matter? Black drug dealers in the inner city are less palatable to voters than Mafia dons?

Seriously, man, I would love to read your opinion because this show deserves much more recognition. It's the best show on TV and one of the best in the last 15 years, period.

"The Corner" was made by the same people who make "The Wire" and had similar subject matter. It received plenty of accolades.

That's it in a nutshell. Also discussing those factors would touch on way too many issues. Here's a great writeup Stephen King did for Entertainment Weekly at the beginning of the season for the Wire (HBO sent him preview copies of the entire season). I thought his last two paragraphs summed up the quality of the show perfectly:
