How do I run this type of file?

My friend gave me a cd a while back, and the file format is 002 003 004 etc... how the heck do i install this thing?

Try WinRAR.

Just a guess that the files might need to be extracted. Although they typically are in the format *.rar (ie: 001.rar, 002.rar, 003.rar)

ya, i have winrar and winzip... funny thing is that III bought the program, let him use it and he backed it up (he does it with everything) and then I had to reformat my comp. and im stuck using this garbage cause he lost the cds

it's an archive file that got split up. If you can't ask your "friend" what program he used then you can try the following:

winRAR
winzip
7-zip
hj-split
maybe even a chainsaw file
