    Free week of NFL Network

Cablevision and Time Warner will get a free week of NFL Network from December 24th-December 30th.

    Games shown during that period:

December 28th - Texas Bowl - Kansas State vs. Rutgers
December 29th - Insight Bowl - Texas Tech vs. Minnesota

Big news here is that the New York/New Jersey area which primarily has Cablevision will be able to see Rutgers play which has gained a much increased following this year.

Cablevision is only going to show the Texas Bowl. That's it. I hope the Giant game on the 30th is Sold-Out so we can get it locally here in NYC

This was only a halfhearted move by the NFL. No NFL games will be shown during these free previews

Why wouldn't they show a Giants game in NYC?
        Just turn to channel 10.

Still nice to see a sample of NFL network.

I think I'm getting the Giants game anyway.

Charter here used to carry NFL Network but they dropped it. Charter here pretty much sucks when it comes to sports. Can't get Full Court or Gameplan. Can't get ESPNU. No ESPN2HD. Didn't get ESPN Classic til last Christmas.

Boys you are not missing much by not seeing a NFL game on the network. We here in Canada get the feed on TSN on the games and I'm telling you that play-by-play moron Bryant Gumbal is easily the worst I have ever heard of any sport in my lifetime. Trust me he is so bad you don't want to watch the game. He shows absolutely no enthusiasm and gives you the impression that he doesn't want to be there and it seems like he is not even at the game. He makes you feel you're watching a high school game, it is that bad.

I see more of the problem on the NFL networks side. Apparently, the NFL is charging a higher premium to Time Warner than all other cable services. They also won't allow them to place in on a sports package, which seems reasonable to me. They want to force Time Warner to makes its customers pay individually for the NFL network.

Its a powerplay by the NFL, just like how ESPN does the same thing with ESPNU

That said, its frustrating that next year, Time Warner will not be carrying NFL Network, ESPNU, and the New Big 10 channel.....all of which will have games I'm gonna want to watch.

hate the NFL more. I used to hate TW too until I realized how arrogant the NFL is being. True, I would hate having to pay an extra $10 to upgrade to the sports pack but at least i'd get NBA TV along with NFLN and other sports channels.

Re: Free week of NFL Network

The problem with NFLN is that the powers that be dropped the ball bigtime.

I remember when the network was first launched it was supposed to be part NFL news of the day, part Live events like press conferences etc etc and part opening up the NFL Films vaults.

At some point they totally dropped the most unique programming (NFL Films stuff) because it doesn't jibe with the 18-34 age bracket so what do they do? Turn the network into a 24 hr gabfest of talking heads and repeating programming back to back to back. The only truly worthwhile stuff on the network IMO is the current special series right now called AMERICA'S GAME where they have 1 hr documentaries for the top 20 SB winners of all time.

I still don't understand why they dropped the emphasis on showing the old NFL Films stuff because it's interesting and seeing that they can't replay old classic NFL broadcasts then that would be a viable alternate to seeing Rich Eisen, Rod Woodson, Jamie Dukes and Marshall Faulk seemingly 24 hrs a day.

Oh and the "original programming" is hoorible. I give to you as proof the "NFL Cheerleaders Playoff competition". Oye Vey!

No wonder the cable companies don't want this crap on their airwaves.

I also don't know why they got rid of most of their original shows or the NFL Films stuff. I always used to be inclined to watch it to see those certain shows, but now they just repeat the same stuff over and over. You either have NFL Total Access showing all morning like another Sportscenter. Then in the afternoon they keep on showing the Point After show with Jim Mora.

I don't know why they stopped showing Sounds of the Game or Six Days to Sunday as I liked those shows a lot. It was always interesting to see what certain players would do to prepare for their game that week.

The only 2 shows that I really watch on it now, besides NFL Total Access (which still gives the best football information about any show), is NFL Replay or America's Game. Replay is always useful in getting to see some games that you might have not seen over the week.

Though I'm curious as to why the '94 Niners are only #17 on this list. IMO they are one of the best teams of all time and I'm wondering why they are so low on this list.
