Yup it's pretty straight forward, just match the colors and that's it. I only use official Sony component cables and that's how I hooked them up and they work great.

Best Buy and Circuit City $24.99, your cables are probably bad that's why I prefer to use official brand products. I'm not a big fan of Monster cables either, i've tried them before to compare and I could not tell the difference waste of money.

I'm using the PS2 version. The PS3 version are exactly the same cables they just look different. The best thing to do is go to the store either BB or CC cause they are no longer listed at their website. If you can't find them at the store Amazon.com still sells them:

Oh man sorry, I should have read your problem a little better. Go to your XMB aka Cross Media Bar. Select Display settings, then select your resolution(s) then select which cable you want as an interface i.e. HDMI, Component, or Composite. Then with your d-pad press the right button. It will ask you to setup your audio then press the X button and it will save your settings.

Give that a try and let me know. You should be able to get your money back.

You might, now that I think about it. I would select every resolution your HDTV can accept i.e. 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p etc. so at least you are covered by all those resolutions. After you are done with those changes go back and tell the system you are using a component cable even though you still have your HDMI cable connected.

Shut down the system connect your component cables and give it a try. Let me know what happened.

its not allowing me to save that component cable setting,i can change the audio and save with no probs, you think if i hooked em both up the hdmi, and the component it would switch when i ask it to?..then it would save? so i could use the compnent

Yeah you have no choice make sure you turn off the system first no need to take out the video portion of the system.

                            Re: ps3 component monster cable

Guys, you need to do a hard reset on the PS3 for it to recognize the new cables that were inserted. Since you started the PS3 with the HDMI cables, your system is set to only read the HDMI cable. Even if you place the component cables or change the settings, it won't work.

To hard reset, unplug the HDMI cables and make sure the PS3 is not on when doing this. Plug in the component cables to the TV and PS3. When turning on the PS3, press and hold the power button on the actual PS3 for 5 seconds when you hear the first beep and then on the second beep let go of the power button. This will hard reset your PS3 and it will allow the PS3 to recognize the component cables. Sony is a bunch of idiots for doing this, but hopefully with a firmware upgrade this will be changed.
