    Re: ps3 component monster cable

here is what i did...hooked em both up hdmi, and component, and when it ask to change the resolution for the comp,i switched the tv setting to component, and in 5 seconds or so it switched it to the component, but candymans way was a lot easier,it only took me all day and going back and forth with circuit city, and gamestop.telling them there cables were garbage, only to find out they are ok ,but it saved me money i took back the monster cables for a refund, and tried the mad catz 14.99 ones with help from rodster,i was able to get it to work..so thanks guys..and sony why make it so hard to do? the 360 does an auto with there cables..it recongnizes them with no probs..anyways thanks again

To hard reset, unplug the HDMI cables and make sure the PS3 is not on when doing this. Plug in the component cables to the TV and PS3. When turning on the PS3, press and hold the power button on the actual PS3 for 5 seconds when you hear the first beep and then on the second beep let go of the power button. This will hard reset your PS3 and it will allow the PS3 to recognize the component cables. Sony is a bunch of idiots for doing this, but hopefully with a firmware upgrade this will be changed.
That's not true. I've switched cables without turning off the system.

Wow I wouldn't do that with a live system, freak things can happen. I'm always cautious when I plug in an A/V cable I always make sure the power is turned off. It's better to be safe than sorry.

No, I've never done it with it on, but I've never had to do that hard re-set. I just turned my system off, plugged in the component cables or HDMI cables, turned it back on, worked fine.

Cool, I'm glad that you got it working. What a pain in the *** of a way to do this if you ask me.

I don't know man, I tired that and it doesn't work. There are plenty of people at AVSForums that had the same issue when switching cables and the PS3 would not recognize the cables being changed out, so a hard reset needed to be done.

First you changed the cables with the system running and then you didn't, so when did you do it so maybe it can help us out if we ever need to switch cables without messing around with all resets, was the system on/off? Like Rod said, I wouldn't be unplugging and plugging cables while that thing is on, you'll have another system in the graveyard.

Is it bad if you start the system on with both the HDMI and Component Cables at the same time like I think that ghm125 did to switch the HDMI to Component?

LOL, I meant I've changed cables without doing the restart... I actually just did it to test it. No issues.

Your lucky man that it works for you, we have to go through the hard reset pain in the *** process.
