I agree Black Christmas is a really underated movie. Maybe with the remake coming out and the DVD of the original recently released it will get more attention.

It should get more love considering it was the movie that spawned the slasher genre and came out a full 4 years before Halloween which always has been given that mantle. Even Carpenter himself has said he was inspired and borrowed heavily from the film. But it's a Canadian film and no one watches those south of the border.

Great movie. Heard any news on the sequel? I know it was originally planned for this year or 2007, but I haven't heard ANY news on it for about a year.

Agreed (at least most underrated of the last 5 years or so), and a sequel is coming next year, but Neil Marshall isn't doing it.

                  I'll add some others...

                  2000 Maniacs (birth of gore)
2001 Maniacs (remake/sequel by Tim Sullivan, amazing!)
Audition (Hard to watch...very hard to watch)
Cabin Fever (Roth's debut, great hommage to many horror films)
                  Re-Animator (CLASSIC)
High Tension (Haute Tension or SwitchBlade Romance, whatever you want to call it)

EDIT - forgot a great one from this year, Feast... Project Greenlight's movie. Great flick!

Audition isn't underrated IMO, it's highly regarded as a classic in horror circles.

I have to agree with Black Christmas, classic movie. People outside of horror probably don't even know this movie exists, that's ok...it's still badass.

Honorable mention to both The Vanishing and the original version of The Wicker Man.

All three of those movies are seriously underrated IMO.

You say Audition isn't underrated and then say The Wicker Man is? LOL Just messing man.

Horror fans know both movies are classics, but for this forum, not many people have probably even heard of either. Maybe they know the Nic Cage remake of Wicker Man, but that's it.

High Tension was fantastic IMO. Honestly despite reading some of the reviews who said the ending was predictable, I never saw it coming one bit.

Oh and I always thought "What Lies Beneath" was a very good ghost story but not sure if it was overrated, as I think it did quite well at the box office.

LOL I see your point now, my bad.

They're both ignored by the general public so therefore underrated.

Mainstream horror is mining the Japanese ghost/revenge stories and remakes right now, but I'd kill for more voodoo pot-boilers and pirate-related horror flicks.

Also, Silent Hill had so much potential..If it weren't for the studios' ignorance and gamer stereotypes, it could've been a hell of a movie.
