Re: Most underrated Horror film of all time.
It should get more love considering it was the movie that spawned the slasher genre and came out a full 4 years before Halloween which always has been given that mantle. Even Carpenter himself has said he was inspired and borrowed heavily from the film. But it's a Canadian film and no one watches those south of the border.Comment

Re: Most underrated Horror film of all time.
I'll add some others...
2000 Maniacs (birth of gore)
2001 Maniacs (remake/sequel by Tim Sullivan, amazing!)
Audition (Hard to watch...very hard to watch)
Cabin Fever (Roth's debut, great hommage to many horror films)
Re-Animator (CLASSIC)
High Tension (Haute Tension or SwitchBlade Romance, whatever you want to call it)
EDIT - forgot a great one from this year, Feast... Project Greenlight's movie. Great flick!Last edited by ExtremeGamer; 12-19-2006, 09:59 AM.Comment

Re: Most underrated Horror film of all time.
Audition isn't underrated IMO, it's highly regarded as a classic in horror circles.
I have to agree with Black Christmas, classic movie. People outside of horror probably don't even know this movie exists, that's ok...it's still badass.
Honorable mention to both The Vanishing and the original version of The Wicker Man.
All three of those movies are seriously underrated IMO.Patrick Mahomes > GodComment

Horror fans know both movies are classics, but for this forum, not many people have probably even heard of either. Maybe they know the Nic Cage remake of Wicker Man, but that's it.Comment

Oh and I always thought "What Lies Beneath" was a very good ghost story but not sure if it was overrated, as I think it did quite well at the box office.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

You say Audition isn't underrated and then say The Wicker Man is? LOL Just messing man.

They're both ignored by the general public so therefore underrated.Patrick Mahomes > GodComment

Phantasm
The Woman In Black
Angel Heart
Wes Craven's New Nightmare
Mainstream horror is mining the Japanese ghost/revenge stories and remakes right now, but I'd kill for more voodoo pot-boilers and pirate-related horror flicks.
Also, Silent Hill had so much potential..If it weren't for the studios' ignorance and gamer stereotypes, it could've been a hell of a movie.D E S E R V E_V I C T O R YR.I.P. Sean Taylor (1983-2007), a True CaneComment
