Not only the 'Godfather of Soul' but along with George Clinton, the cornerstone of hip hop...

'Funky Drummer' is probably the most sampled beat in history...

Sadly, in the next few weeks, months and years the world will be forced to endure that crazy *** wife of his, who I'm guessing will be launching a 'wrongful death' suit against everyone and anyone, as well as making a jackass out of herself at the numerous tribute apppearances that will most assuredly become her first (and only) legit carrer...

    Sigh...

    Cue 'It's a Man's Man's Man's World'...

James was the undisputed father/creator of funk (he gave rise to george clinton and parliament as well as bootsie collins) Sit back and enjoy the show.

His people must've known what's up, since she was locked out of the crib... She wasn't even around when he passed.

            Re: James Brown has died.

The only negative knock on JB at least from my perspective is this: (keep in mind it's rumour/speculation so it may not be totally true)

There's a Marvin Gaye connection (yeah I know I know) in that he discovered a very young Tammi Terrell. He even had her doing tours with him. There's rumours that he used to beat her up and all kinds of unruly stuff. She was a bit of a "child of the streets" in the first place but that doesn't mean he had the right to smack her up on the head and such. It's this that many people believe led to her having brain cancer and dying later in the same decade.

(For completion sake the other name in this rumour is David Ruffin who dated Terrell for a while and was extremely abusive to her. I think it may have been a little bit of both to be honest)

He's had all sorts of demons to deal with, from domestic abuse to drugs... He did his time for both, so I prefer to just remember his musical contributions at this time...

I just saw on the news that Spike Lee is going to do a movie about James Brown... Should be interesting. I've always been a big fan of Spike's work, ever since he signed my high school yearbook.

That would be VERY interesting. Spike Lee did a great job with Malcolm X and I think he'll do a bang up job on a James Brown flick. I wonder if he'll go the unknown route with the lead actor?

I was listening to an interview with James Brown that was done on the Tom Joyner Morning Show a little while ago, and he mentioned something about plans for a movie on his life... And they asked about the actors who would play him, and Jamie Foxx's name came up, since he's done "Ray"... And he said, "No." I didn't hear specifics as to why he didn't want Foxx, since I had already arrived at work, but I thought it was interesting. I think Jamie would do a good job as James Brown, but maybe I'm biased because of his great performance in "Ray". He did say he'd like Levar Burton to play him, but I don't know how well that would go over.

You know who I think would do a good job as James Brown? The actor Leon, who played David Ruffin's role in the Temptations movie... I don't know how well that would translate to the big screen, since Leon is a tall dude, and Brown was kinda short.

Personally I don't think Foxx would be right to play James Brown. He doesn't really look like Brown and I don't think he can really sing in that style.

Leon is an interesting name, I loved his work in that Temptations movie. Either way it'll be interesting to see what Spike Lee does.
