Very beautiful. Looks like it's taken from a computer game.
I guess they want to develop like crazy while they still have profitable oil deposits. When the wells run dry, they will have created an alternate source of income. Smart.Enjoy football? Enjoy Goal Line Blitz!Comment

Re: Wow
Heres the problem...
Dubai is already, without having any of that, a tourist attraction. It shows that one pic prior to 1990, but I remember friends of the family going to Dubai in 1988 when they got married, and they're portuguese--so ya, there were already tourist attractions.
Now, they will easily have spent, by the time of completion, over 150 BILLION USD. So if they have the money, why not spend it right?
There are many problems associated with spending money this quickly to become so popular and profitable. For exampl, Dubai is in the Middle East and will be making alot of profit through North American tourists. If the US wants to make sure it doesnt happen, it will. They're warn against terrorism, they'll just flat out forbid their people from going there (but they can always go to a neighbouring country and travel to Dubai from there like thye do with Cuba). So what am I saying? If the US feels their tourism rates will drop at the hands of Dubai, then they're for sure put an end to it, even throught their allies.
What are the other problems? Oil will one day not be needed for much. Maybe for factories or whatever, but not for cars. Sure, this is still maybe 50 years away, but considering the way that technology works, i see it happening in less than 20 years... So what happens next? Dubai will have this huge terrorist destination that is waaaaay too expensive to maintain and if not enough tourists come by, it'll fail.
Also, the Middle Eastern nations that are led by Islam are usually anti-capitalist yet Dubai shows itself as being as capitalist as the US--not good because Islamic leaders might turn on Dubai and... well, anything can happen if that does occur and terrorism wont be that much of a stretch. Terrorism happens and tourism gets shot.
What Im trying to get at is that having money through oil is like having stocks--it'll eventually become very shaky and if so, Dubai is set to fail.PSN: Peji911Comment

Re: Wow
Even if the U.S. were to forbid residents from going to Dubai, Dubai would generate plenty of income from the Asian and European tourists that would just love to go there. Dubai is closer in proximity to much of the world then the United States is, and as it appears, it will have a lot more to offer then the U.S. will too. Unlike the U.S., the rest of the world isn't worried about being attacked by terrorists every time they set foot outside of their own country. I seriously doubt that the creators of this project in Dubai are as worried about American tourists as much as we think they are.Last edited by ToAsT7137; 12-29-2006, 06:02 PM.Comment
