    56 inch Samsung DLP Broken and the Best Buy Warranty

    I bought a 56 inch Samsung DLP about a year ago and got the 4 year warranty. Recently my component 2 input and hdmi input stopped working so i called the warranty number. The guy came out and said he needed to order a part so i will have to wait to get it repaired. I thought if something was wrong like that, they would just replace it with a new one but it seems with TVs it takes 4 service calls before they replace it.

    The guys said he will have to replace a digital board or something like that. Anyone have any similar experiences and how did it turn out?

    Best Buy doesnt replace anymore...they repair. Both my TV and pocket pc have warranties and both times they sent them out for repair.

        Here's a story that won't make you too happy:

        We had a Panasonic 37" Plasma where I work. It wasn an industrial model though and we bought from a reseller. Anyway, within 5 hours of having the Plasma on we heard a loud crack and the picture would no longer come on.

        It was under warranty from Panasonic. The catch is that a local authorized company had to service the model. I couldn't even get to talk to anyone at Panasonic. Then the guy comes out looks at the monitor and say he has to order a board.

        Well, fast forward 5 months later we finally get a refund check. They couldn't even send a replacement. In that time the board didn't fix the problem, so they tried replacing evey board in the plasma and nothing worked. They told us they were having trouble getting a hold of anyone from Panasonic who could even help.

        I will tell you what. These big companies don't make it easy to get replacements or get your stuff fixed. It's good that Panasonic has local companies fix it so you don't have to ship it but the time it took was ridiculous.

        We just replaced our model at Best Buy and got a Samsung 42" for $300 less than the Panasonic.

        Not the same as your story, but my experience with a TV warranty was not fun.

            It took me nearly 2 months to get my 50" RPHD fixed correctly. First Best Buy sent a 3rd party service company in June to take a look at my TV. I was having problems with my components in the back of the TV. There would be loads of distortion through my DVD players, 360, and DVR box on my TV. There was some grain that was present on the TV.

            It take them 2 weeks after I place the call for the repair man to come. The repair man comes and he looks at the TV, but he can't fix it at home. He has to schedule another appt. for about 1.5 weeks later so he can take the main board. He comes and takes the main board, which is another 2 weeks for them to change the main component switch that was dieing out. The guy comes back with my main board and installs it. After the re-install of the main board, I get a static charge on the TV while watching any channel or DVD movie, that would occur every 5 minutes.

            I call them to come back, and again it takes them about 1.5 weeks to come and check it out. The guy comes and he tells me that there is no issue at all and it has nothing to do with the repair. I get pissed because they screwed something up and call Best Buy. They end up sending one of their repair men out and he looks at the main board, and the dufus that re-installed the main board originally hooked up one of the cables to the wrong slot. The Best Buy repair man fixed my issue. Some of these 3rd party repair men are something else.

              Oh? I just got a replacement TV after my 30" Samsung Slimfit HDTV had a geometry problem that the repair guy couldn't figure out. It was my first repair call, he came out, looked at it for about 5 minutes, and called in to get a confirmation number for me to use when going to the store to get a new TV.

              Not only that, but technically, whenever you have to have a product replaced, that ends the previous 4-year service plan you purchased, and if you want a service plan on the replacement item, you have to re-purchase it. However, because I only had the first TV for 4 months, the manager that helped me out at the store gave me a new 4-year service plan for free without me even having to ask.

              I was VERY happy with the service I received.

              BTW - The service rep came out to my house 2 days after my initial call. Response time must vary by area.

                Had a 52 inch Sony Widescreen HDTV that I bought in 2002 from Best Buy for $2,000; I also bought the 4 year warranty. Last October, the warranty had 1 month left and the picture tubes started going out on it.

                I called Best Buy and they contacted a TV repair shop and they came out and concluded that the cost of repairing it wouldn't be practical so they wrote it up as a non-repairable item and Best Buy gave me $2,000 towards a new TV.

                Just have to hope that it will be really expensive to fix and you might get store credit!
