Re: Apple Introduces iPhone
I wouldn't say people were in the know....as it was almost a dead given that Apple was going to introduce a phone today. However, people wanted to see what it could do first...and that was demoed about 9:30-9:45 PST today (12:30-12:45 EST). Notice the time correlation?XBox Gamertag: djbeth77

Re: Apple Introduces iPhone
I didn't have time to elaborate on my problems with Cingular earlier, so here goes...
When my wife and I moved to Winston-Salem from Wilmington, we were Cingular customers, and our cellphones were our only phones. We do not have a land line. I'd even been a customer of theirs since the name changed from BellSouth Mobility DCS.
Come to find out, our apartment, which is well within Winston-Salem city limits and according to Cingular's coverage maps, right smack dab in the middle of a service area, had a Cingular dead spot. Our phones couldn't pick up any signal from any Cingular towers - but we had no idea because we were still getting service.
Fast forward a month - the bill arrives, and we're being charged out the ying-yang for roaming charges. I call Cingular to investigate. Apparently, because of the dead spot, our phones were pulling service off of a Verizon tower - which in turn was nailing us with roaming charges everytime we used our phones while at home.
Now, because according to a coverage map, we were right in the middle of a coverage area, I felt like Cingular should forgive us of the roaming charges and let us out of our contract so we could sign up with a provider we could actually use. Not so fast, my friend!
Not only did Cingular refuse to even come down some on the roaming charges, they also forced us to pay an early termination fee on the contract - even though I told them I loved their service and would love to become a customer again when I could actually use it! All this from a company I'd been a customer of since 1999.
No thanks. Cingular can stick their iPhone where the tower signals don't shine.Comment

Re: Apple Introduces iPhone
Its unreal.
I think it has the potential to be the coolest consumer electronic product ever made.
Wow. Once they make it available for all the cell phone phone providers, look out."You can not ensure success, but you can deserve it." - John Quincy Adams

Re: Apple Introduces iPhone
I think the purpose is obvious: to have a single device that can do everything people want to do on the go. Listen to music, watch movies or TV shows, make calls, text, have an organizer, get on the internet, etc."You can not ensure success, but you can deserve it." - John Quincy Adams

Re: Apple Introduces iPhone
cool lookin phone no doubt, but it has one glaring flaw and that is it has no 3g. i dunno what apple is thinkin releasing a phone on a gsm network with a 3g network and only giving it edge. i mean i know battery life had something to do with it but they should have sacrificed something to let it have 3g. edge is only like 120kbs. on my cingular 8525 i get about 700-900kbs on 3g.Comment
