Cell phone LCD screens...

so I sat my cell phone down at a friend's place last night. Sometime between 30 minutes to an hour later I pick it back up because its ringing. There's this purple spot on my screen(it looks as if someone's thumb had been pressed on it for the last hour)and it takes up so much of the screen that my cell phone is reduced to making phone calls and receiving calls with no caller ID. Missed calls can't be viewed.


Is there anyway to fix this without buying a new phone? I've already tried the drying it out thing and it didn't work. This sucks
