Re: ESPN Cancels Quite Frankly
Yes and no. It's still a good forum for hot sports topics to be discussed, but more and more it's an exercise of clashing egos fighting for limited air time.
"Sports Reporters" was good when it started, before ESPN turned print reporters into celebrities.
Back in the day, a print sports reporter's primary goal was to cover a major beat and maybe win a journalism award. Now most print sports reporters yearn for an easy, high-paying gig on ESPN or ESPN Radio instead of slogging a beat or writing a good column.
My, how the sports journalism biz has changed -- for the worse.

Sports Reporters would be a lot better if Mike Lupica wasn't on every episode, hogging up all the oxygen and time from the others.

Re: ESPN Cancels Quite Frankly
I wish Lupica would just stick to print, as he's a very good writer. His column in the Daily News has been a good read for 25 years.

I agree, I always enjoyed him and his show. I think you guys take his schtick a little to seriously. To me his whole personality is funny which makes him and the show entertaining.Comment

Is B.T. still on with him at 1050? They would have some pretty interesting give and take on occasion.Comment

Hey PK I think you'd like the Canadian Sports Reporters much better. It's much more low key and while a couple of the regular panelists have huge egos it doesn't come out very much.
The only problem is, it's way too hockey-centric for my tastes. I guess that's the price to pay for living in Canada.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Definitely-what ever happened to the fat guy from Philly, and does John Saunders have a slight speech problem? (For the record I think John Saunders is great, and a classy replacement for Dick Schapp)Comment

Re: ESPN Cancels Quite Frankly
I think the current panelists respect Saunders as a TV host, but they don't respect him as a journalist and writer anywhere near the way they rightfully held Schaap aloft. So their egos go unchecked more than when Schaap ran the show.
