Rent it, watch it, and give us your feedback. I'd be interested in hearing what you have to say.

As I stated before, the original is a classic horror/suspense film. I just don't see them needing to add anything, effects speaking, to make it better.

If they actually showed the girl getting ripped in half by the semi then I don't necessarily think that would add anything to the movie. I thought the way they did it in the original was perfect (they only showed the interaction between Hauer and Hutton).

They did, but it wasn't Grace. It was Jim. To be honest with you, I never even thought of that scene when I considered the visual enhancements in the movie, considering it could have been done back when (though it probably wouldn't have looked as real).

Please, please don't tell me that Sophia Bush's character was the main focus of this movie.....

Well, her and Knighton both. And then Bean was exposed in most of the movie, but like I said... his motives were never explained, nor were his actions.

            * * * * * SPOILER (if you want to know what the ending is not about) * * * *

Like I said earlier... about a half-hour into the movie, I came up with the crazy possibility that the end would basically say that John Ryder didn't exist... that he was just a manifestation of their imagination, and that they created him. I initially thought this after (if this is the same as the original) Grace was in the bathroom at the diner and she spots that his car is no longer there, and when she walks outside she is arrested for the murders of the families on the highway along with Jim. Not only that, but nobody ever really saw the guy before. Not to mention John Ryder is such a generic name like that.

Of course, like I also said, I ended that prediction about ten minutes later.

The great thing about The Hitcher or the original TCM, was that there was almost no blood or gore in either. Both were more psychological than gory. And I'm all for gore, but when I've seen the movie already, adding gore and CGI does not make it better.

But that's fine if you prefer the remake, I'm sure many did because the original wasn't bloody enough or whatever. But if you saw the original like I did back in the 80's, it was terrifying. If I never would have saw the original and viewed the remake a few years ago, it was just another horror film, albeit a good one, but nothing special.
Now, I'm not saying I liked the remake better because there was more gore or anything, and I'm not saying I didn't like the original. It might just be because I knew what was going to happen, so the whole 'horror' part of the original just wasn't there for me. Had I seen the original first I would've loved it because I prefer the more psychological horror to the bloody, gore-filled horror movies.

Had I seen the original first, then the remake, I would've loved the original and found the remake entertaining because of the eye-candy and the gore, but it wouldn't have been as good.

                I gotcha...

I was trying to think of remakes I have liked and came up with 3...

Amytville Horror, Hills Have Eyes, and TCM. None are better than the original, although Amytville is close to the original at least, only because I was never a fan of the original, and found the remake to explore the house's history more.

                  Re: The Hitcher

This movie could have definitely gone without the gore factor, and while it didn't help the movie, it didn't quite hurt it, either. I don't necessarily think that this was the kind of movie where people went for the blood. As a matter of fact, every single person that has talked to me about the movie since last night all talk about "that scene" from the trailer (the one in the car). It seems as though that's what piqued most people's interest, as did I.

I didn't go for the gore, nor was it really all that bad. Nothing really to cringe over.

By the way, the trailer for Dead Silence looked pretty good. Not exactly my cup-of-tea for a horror movie, but it didn't look bad. There was also a teaser for The Hills Have Eyes 2. It really makes me want to go rent the first one.

The Hills Have Eyes remake was good for one reason and one reason alone. Wes Craven gave it's blessing and a real horror director in Alexandar Aja did it. I enjoyed it, nothing beats the original, as it's a complete classic, but it was a good remake.

The sequel on the other hand, um....let's not go there. I just hope it's not a remake of the original sequel, which was beyond bad.

What does EG hate more than a horror remake?

The sequel to a horror remake.

Actually, reading up on it, the sequel could be good. It's a new movie, not based on the original sequel (thank GOD!) and is done by a German director who had his last horror film banned in Germany. Hmmmmmmm

First movie gets a French director, sequel gets a German one...

Did somebody say this was "art"? Just watched this on DVD... and I want the 90 minutes of my life back. The decisions these two made along the way were just not believable. And then not knowing what Ryder's motives were was additionally frustrating. There were just a lot of stupid people running around in this movie. Sad to say I never watched the original, so I'm not degrading it because it's a remake. But now, I'd like to see the original after this to compare and see exactly which one is truly "art".
