    Computer question....

When you stream a video through Firefox from a site like DailyMotion or YouTube, where can I find the streamed file on my computer? Does it take up any space or is that temp file deleted as soon as I stop watching it? I've streamed lots of videos and I don't want them to take up any hard drive space....

    Thanks!

I don't think streamed vidoe is saved on your HDD Matrix.

Thanks Rubisco, but that's not quite what I was asking .

Dre, I'm pretty sure it doesn't either, but I figured one of the computer geeks would know if an actual file is saved or takes up space for a certain amount of time or whatever. Guess it doesn't.

Nope, it doesn't store it on your computer.

Typically they're stored in the temp directory until you either leave the page you're on (youtube) or you exit the browser.

Yeah, streaming video isn't stored on the computer. It isn't downloaded on the hard drive...it is loading up from where the video is coming from. You can tell these videos because they buffer. Anything that doesn't buffer was downloaded to your comp.

What you can do is look for a streaming video recorder, but normally you have to pay for those and I have no idea if they actually work.

As for youtube stuff, you can save it as a .flv file and watch it on a flv player...OR...get a program to record it into an avi file or mpeg or whatever you desire, like I do.

Youtube content is definitely stored locally, as well as content like ESPN Motion.

Definitely ESPN Motion. I never looked into youtube. I was saving those another way.

Thanks for the answers, guys.....I guess YouTube just deletes the temp file after I'm done with it, which is what I was wondering about. I just didn't want all those videos to take up unnecessary space if I'm not manually DLing it to my hard-drive via VideoDownloader.

I guess it would've helped if I read the ENTIRE post before posting my response huh?
