RIDICULOUS that Bad Religion only got one mention, and #15 at that.

Not entirely sure, but I think they are limiting themselves to one album per artist for these lists? Even their Honorable Mention section doesn't seem to have duplicates.

Re: IGN Top 25 Punk Albums

"London Calling" was a more influential and better album than "The Clash," but it had more genre-blending than the debut record, so maybe that's why it wasn't named.

I don't have a problem with The Ramones at No. 1. But The Dead Kennedys over The Pistols' "Bollocks?"

That's insane. IGN should stick to something it knows about, like ... hmm ... uh -- what does IGN know about?

        Take care,

"Bollocks" is an important album, but I would say not a very good one. The best songs were singles prior to release, added to the album because the singles kept getting pulled from shelves. Without "Anarchy", "God Save The Queen", "Pretty Vacant" and "Holidays" there ain't much worth hearing. The first Clash album is THE best first-wave British punk album; "London Calling" has higher highs, but lacks the focus, intensity and dud-free nature of their debut. I would say it (edit - "london Calling" - I re-read this and it sounded like I was talking about the debut) is a better rock album than a punk album, but then again my favorite Clash is "Sandinista", which makes "London Calling" look tight and filler-free.

And the DKs "Fresh Fruit" is the seminal American punk album in a lot of ways. With Black Flag, they were viewed much the same as the Pistols/Clash were in the 77 - the definition of hardcore punk, California style (the Bad Brains had been playing hardcore for years but they didn't have the impact).

It seems in all of these lists they are going for representation - here they hit key progenitors (Stooges, NY Dolls), best of each particular scene, like British class of 77 (Pistols & Clash), West Coast punk (Black Flag, DKs, X), DC (Bad Brains, Minor Threat), NY (Ramones, Richard Hell), 2nd wave & after (Bad Religion, NOFX, Social D). You'd have a good start to a punkcollection if you started with these 25 and went backwards and forwards from there.

Milo Goes to College should be a little higher. One of the best albums ever. Also strange to see H2O get honorable mention, but cool nonetheless.

That's what I was just going to post. Perfect album from beginning to end.

I agree with #1, but Green Day should be higher, but I am bias.

Man a videogame site giving "the best of" lists for music is like a gourmet chef asking The King how to make a burger.

Green Day shouldn't even be on that list.

Tough call on Whatever order you put your top 5 in. The Ramones...the Clash...the Sex Pistols ....all VERY, VERY influential bands. Sure the Pistols were huge...I mean who didn't love The Great Rock and Roll Swindle?! Pure genius!
But the Clash were just so great on so many levels. Sure, Joe Strummer could barely sing a lick....but his voice was great. The Clash and London Calling were both great albums from start....to finish.
My brother was in a punk band in the late 70's early 80's that actually opened up for the Clash at Bond's International Casino. It was there first gig!!! Big prize for any "punk fan" who can tell me who band that was!

The Bad Brains....pay to come(not spelled this way....but I don't want to violate T.O.S.!)...we used to play that song in class in high school as my hot Spanish teacher would come into the room . The song was so fast, you couldn't understand the words anyway!

Here's a hint on my bro's band...the band evolved into another band and the lead singer of that band just had a movie released about his life called "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints" starring Chaz Palminteri.
