      The short version:

I cut the 30 second clip of song, remove the bass and increase the volume. Then save it as a MP3.

I then use dBpowerAmp to reduce the file's bitrate, which brings the file size to 120 kb or less. It's then saved as a MP3 with a bitrate of 32 kpbs.

I then change the .MP3 extension to .MID so the phone recognizes it, and email it to my phone, where it's received as a pix message. I then extract the audio and set it as a ringtone.

I'm with Verizon Wireless, and it works great. Especially considering VZW is one of the tighest phone providers when it comes to free add-ons and user-end data transfer.

Yeah, I thought I had sent it the first time but it didn't go through. The second time I tried it I instantly got the text message. Thanks.

I just realized mobile17 got so popular that the texts take AWHILE to get...

Mixxer might be the better bet, but mobile17 is always an option if you have time.

Hmm, I just use two free programs (Audacity to cut the song up and BitPim to transfer it to my phone) to make my own ringtones. Its pretty easy and I can do my own in 5 minutes, and its perfect MP3 quality.

what would i need to just make my own ringtones from the computer and send them to my phone??

Why do that when I could just use Audacity?

Other people have their own sites and ways, but Mixxer just seems to easy.

                          That's what I'm thinking, too.

Very easy to use, and very quick.

Goldwave is a beast of a program, had it for awhile. I also use mobile17 and i used to use 3gupload but they changed their domain name. I can choose any size at mobile17 and im in no rush. What can I say, not a big fan of change..

If you have a USB hookup for your phone, its pretty easy to do it without the help of a website.

If you need some pointers, there are forums for most of the major phone brands and companies over at www.howardforums.com
