    Computer Virus(?) Help

    Greetings,

Anybody out there experienced in computer viruses? I'm not sure if this is classified as one, but I keep getting pop ups, all for random anti-virus software that I've never heard of. I get these pop ups non stop, even when I'm not on the internet. There's even control panel pop ups with flashing exclamation points that won't go away unless you click on them. Every single one wants me to buy anti virus software.

I have the latest greatest McAfee Security Center and it's never let me down until now. I've scanned my computer a few times, it detects some cookies and gets rid of them, but not much else. I have seen some McAfee popups indicating that virus / worms have been detected and it gets rid of them, but obviously not the ones that need to stop.

This all started around a week ago and I don't know what to do at this point...anybody have any suggestions? Should I just reset my computer back a week? Thanks in advance for any help!

Are the pop up ads like: WinAntiVirus, WinFixer, SysProtect, DriveCleaner, etc? If it is, you're effed. I had that crap on my computer and its a bitch to get removed, damn near impossible. I've been able to get rid of the pop ups, but my computer is still extremely slow, in comparison to where it was before the virus, spyware, malware problems. I've been too lazy to figure out what exactly to do, but I'm thinking of putting my backups to use and just redo the operating system.

You have spyware, get Windows defender and Lavasoft Adaware and run some scans on your PC.

I'd also recommend Spybot Search & Destroy. It's free and got rid of some of the problems.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll check these out. And yes the ads are like "WinAntiVirus, WinFixer, SysProtect, DriveCleaner, etc". I'm sure glad I just renewed my McAfee package to have this happen and the program do nothing about it.
