    DVR Question

Is there anyway to transfer stuff you saved on your DVR to your PC? I'd love to save start saving sporting events (I used to VHS back in the day) again but I don't know if it's possible because the HD on the cable box doesn't provide that much room.

    Re: DVR Question

its probably against TOS to talk about here, but search google for what your cable company DVR model is and pc, you should find it if it is possible with that model

      Re: DVR Question

Why is it against TOS? I'm not going to do anything illegal. I don't think people would be willing to pay for a copy of a Syracuse/UConn game when both teams stink!

        Re: DVR Question

It could be illegal because many cable companies don't allow shows to be transferred off of their DVR's. Some even go so far as to turn off the USB and firewire ports.

Interesting, why would the devices be designed w. the ports to begin with?

I don't have a real suggestion but just to add to the discussion, Tivo has their own free software that allows you to transfer video from your box to your PC, even allowing you to buy a plugin that lets you burn them to DVD.

Thanks, I'll definitely look into that. Plus it'll probably be a much more user-friendly experience than all the programs, drivers, etc you have to DL to run extract something off a Comcast DVR.

Something like this is legal I'd assume. But this has to be done w. the live original airing of the program on TV. Although I'd imagine if you were playing a DVR'd program the system wouldn't know the difference.

Like fishepa stated, probably for future use.

I know my cable company doesn't allow for transferring files off of the DVR. The firewire port is active so I can do it, but none of my PC's or laptop's have a firewire port to get the data off of my DVR. I could by a card to put in one of my PC's, but then I'd have to carry the PC downstairs or the DVR upstairs to do the transfer. Just wasn't worth it to me.

I wish cable companies made it easier...
