desktop computer problem

My desktop at home is having a little bit of a problem and im wondering if anyone off hand could know whats going on because I get more help.

Alright, it sounds like its running completly fine when I turn the box on, but the only problem is that the monitor doesnt respond. All I get is a black screen and the little green light on the monitor is blinking. Its usually solid when its working normally. Ive checked all the plugs and everything appears to be pluged in and completely pushed in. I also noticed that the keyboard doesnt really respond either. If I unplug it then plug it back in all the lights in the upper right corner blink 3 times and then it stops responding again. The mouse light works fine and appears to be fine although obviously I cant tell since I cant see anything on my screen. My speakers appear fine too, or at least the light stays on when the computer is turned on.

So any clue what could be up? It was working perfect right before I left for work yesterday, and then when I got home this is the problem I ran into. I checked all the plugs 100 times because I wanted to get use it, but I couldnt figure it out.

Do you have another monitor you could use to test to see if the monitor is the problem? It's probably either the monitor or the video card.

Try in this order:

1. Verify the monitor doesn't have a separate analog and digital mode which it may have if it has VGA and DVI connectors. If it does, try switching the mode.

2. Try a different monitor.

3. Reseat/try a different video card.

If a monitor has a dvi input, that is a digital input. If your monitor is set for digital input, you won't be able to see an analog connection (VGA). Just hit the input button on your monitor and see if that helps.

ahh alright Ill give it a try when I get home for lunch.

As for the screen, I dont know if this helps at all, but its not like a faded black screen like "its on, but not working" its more of a black screen like its turned off and the computer is shut down even though its really turned on, pluged in and everythings running.

Its only a year old flat screen monitor that ive had 0 problems with so its hard for me to believe the monitor is the problem though. Seems kinda fishy that the keyboard wont work either because if it was just the monitor wouldnt I be able to go through everything normally just without being able to see it?

if the keyboard is not working, it is probably the video card, try reseating it and see if that fixes it

Reseat. Meaning unplug the connections, open the PC and take the card out of the slot it sits in on the motherboard and then put it back in again.
