Sure there is..... you have to keep $100 deposit in case you decide to skip town with a game or two, that way they're covered. Just like setting down a deposit on an apartment.

Well they did my Visa debit card which is linked to my checking account.

Debit Cards or Check Cards are suppose to NOT be used for the pre-auth so that a customer can rent a 360, PS3, or a Wii game. Credit Cards are the only thing allowed, even though you can use a debit or check card like a credit card and Blockbuster can't force charge a debit or check card like it could to a credit card. If the credit card is at its limit Blockbuster could charge more to the card. If the words Debit or Check Card are anywhere on the card the employee is suppose not allow it. Sometimes you can get lucky and the person will still take it.

The reason is so people can't just rent a $60 game for $8 and never bring it back, and yes SPTO was correct in the past when the game was kept for more than 2 weeks it would autosale to the account for the remaining balance.

$60 - $8 = $52 amount to pay

Now the game would autosale for the $60. You can also still bring the game back within 30 days after it was sold to the account and you just pay a $1.25 restocking fee. On each receipt that is printed out there will be a "Own it date" and as long you return the game before that date you will not be charged any additional fee. Same thing applies to a movie.

They didn't take mine. The first thing they asked was whether it was linked to a checking account or not and when I said it was they said that they couldn't take it.

Yeah I have rented 360 games on several occasions. They did NOT ask me if my card was linked to a checking account though. Maybe i signed up before they made this rule. I'd say I signed up about 3 years ago in my estimation if that matters.

Yours might have a different policy then. I signed up awhile ago too and I wasn't aware of the rule.

I'm sure if his CC was on file Blockbuster is happy he kept it. In fact they encourage rentals of both movies and games to become owned by simply keeping them, it's right on every receipt if you've ever noticed. Now if he had no CC on file and kept it then I'm sure they are not so happy and yes he is ruining it for the rest of us!
