Wow... What can I say about this film?
When I first heard about it, I was pretty excited to see it, but after reading some opinions and reviews I wasn't so sure. I went last night and saw it with the girlfriend. Incredible.
Folks, as you can probably imagine, this is not your typical Adam Sandler movie. I'm a big Sandler fan and I must say, this is the best performance I've seen out of him. Ever. His character is very unique, someone who I could never see Adam Sandler as. He not only pulled it off, he nailed it. Oscar worthy perfomance by Sandler.
As mentioned before, this film is not your happy-go-lucky Sandler and Cheadle buddy fest. It's very real. That may also be why this film is doing so poorly; people don't like real. The emotions and characters in this film are very realistic. During the heavy scenes I could hear sniffles and tears in the full theatre around me.
Don't get me wrong, this movie does have some humor in it, too. Sandler and Cheadle's male relationship is something I'm sure many of us can relate to ("I'll take one adult and one f*ggot." LOL). Also, the whole part with Cheadle's patient and her odd intimacy was classic (The first scene where she was coming on to him, the guy below me was yelling "DO IT!" LOL).
All in all, I really enjoyed this film. Go see it.
