    Laptop Connectivity (to HDTV)

Should be simple. I know what I'm doing...but it's not working!

I've tried running my laptop to my HDTV via S-video but the video signal cannot be found. I've tried both S-video inputs on my TV and switched my laptop to "projector mode" or whatever it is called; similar to when you hook it to a LCD projector.

Is it a MUST that I have the blue monitor cable? My TV supports this but I'd have to go buy one ugh. Also, is there a plug that would support both audio and video?

I'm disappointed because I bought the HP all-in-one media cable but it simply will not work for this instance. I was trying to consolidate as many wires as possible.

Any suggestions? Where's the best place to get the cable I need? Thanks a lot!

On my HP laptop when I hook it up to my HDTV via s-video, I have to hit the function key and F4 to get it to display on the TV screen.

Right. It worked fine on my old tv that was 13 years old but not on this new one. Strange isn't it?

Have you tried hooking it up via S-video to your laptop BEFORE you turn your laptop on? I know my laptop won't recognize it's connected to the tv if i happen to connect them when my laptop's already on.

Also double check to be sure you're looking at the right input.
