    ESPN Classic Blows

When I upgraded to digital cable last year, I was looking forward to ESPN classic. I figured I would be getting a heavy dose of NFL Films and the chance to see re-broadcasts of classic sporting events of the past.

I see those things once in a while, but 98% of the time it is Poker from 2005, kick boxing or Arliss. Arliss?? Are you kidding me?? We have a good sixty years worth of televised sports, and the best that ESPN can come up with is a sitcom mildly related to sports?

I had a grey market dish a few years ago so I saw the US version of ESPN Classic then and it was a pretty good channel at the time. You got a wide variety of sporting events and theme weekends.

They still have some good stuff from time to time from what I hear but sheesh that must suck if most of it is poker and kick boxing.

on days of big games (like UNC-Duke) they will show classic matchups of those teams all day which is really cool......and they have good boxing from time to time....but thats about it for me. check the schedule at espn.com to see if anything good is coming on soon

ESPN Classic has gone the way the whole network (outside of ESPNews) has gone. Straight to crap.

I love that show (when in the right mindset).

I agree. ESPN Classic over the last couple of years has been terrible.

I really enjoy ESPN Classic. The coverage of classic boxing fights is superb, and during the college football season they show the best game from Saturday on Sunday morning. They also have theme weekends, and their programming is very season-specific. They've been showing classic NASCAR races lately, as well as classic college basketball games. There are filler shows, yes, but all networks have mediocre shows that they use to fill airtime.

Ok, well maybe I just flip over to that channel at bad times. I am usually looking at night. The College Football games are cool, but the only time I usually see those are early morning on the weekend.

The boxing does seem to be good...but just too much.

I looked at the schedule today, and it is boxing until 4am. And then it goes into 2 hours of Poker from 2004.

Do they ever show old NHL or NBA games?

Honestly, I always thought ESPN Classic was terrible, right from the start. I expected it to be around-the-clock dose of stuff like they did for the UNC/Dook game.

Starting at noon that day, just play the four classic games from noon til 8pm or whatever. They don't show nearly enough games, nor do they show enough SportsCentury's.

If I had it my way, it'd be....

8am-noon: Random classic games, SportsCentury, documentaries.
Noon-8pm: Classic games or content of relevance (teams playing that night, etc)
8pm-10pm: Feature Block, which would obviously be different each night of the week
                      10pm-2am: SportsCentury
2am-8pm: Re-air the three best classic games from the previous day's noon-8pm block. I hate when I see I missed a game I really wanted to catch that aired earlier in the day.

Wow that programming would make so much more sense. I would just include time for Cheap Seats though.

                          Cheap Seats is over.

Anyways, I forget why there is so much boxing on right now but it had a reason for it.

Yes, that would be nice. I also like the "You can't blame" show...And "whose number one?" is good too.

The "5 reasons you can't blame..." show is some quality stuff. I saw a few episodes while I was in NY a couple years back and I found the topics and reasons not to blame the subject matter to be highly interesting and provocative. I especially liked the one about Jerry Krause and breaking up the Bulls Dynasty teams.
