I can understand why people talk like that in texts or maybe IM's, but essays!? Come on, guys. They have to know it's not right.

I actually thought about writing it that way to begin with, but figured a lot of people wouldn't get it.

I hate when people type like that to me.

Really the only ones I ever use are b/c and w/ or w/o. I mainly use those in my personal class notes.

But I never really got into the whole l33t speak or IM talk. It is not that much of a big deal for me to type the few extra letters.

Because as Jmood correctly pointed out, people are stupid.

It feels unnatural to type like that. Not to mention, I feel like knocking anyone who does upside the head when I see it.

Only thing I do in IMs is replace a 'g' with a '...like goin', thinkin' etc. But I'd never write that in a paper.

I heard Steve Nash types like that.

If I was an 8th grade teacher and my students used "IM-speak" in an essay I would give them an immediate F.

That was my first reaction after reading the story. Immediate F. The educator who said they should be praised for creating a new language needs to take another look at it. Until colleges and employers start hiring/accepting people where they are allowed to write like that on a resume or application, they need to curb written use of it so it doesn't get any worse.

I think it is stupid to type like that on IM, let alone in a school essay.
                            Ditto.

My friend Alyx uses that in text message, which I don't even like doing.
