    Carrie Underwood - Some Hearts

I can't stop listening to her latest single, Wasted. This is my favorite song on the album.

It's extremely rare for an album to have 6 singles. This album is so good I feel like there are 3 more songs that could be singles (Starts With Goodbye, I Just Can't Live A Lie, That's Where It Is).

Without American Idol, she would have never been discovered. I have high hopes for her 2nd album.

Quite the good CD, actually. Never would've thought I would have enjoyed this CD, but after hearing it, "Jesus, Take The Wheel" is the only song I don't really like.

And let's not praise American Idol just yet, remember that it did give us Kellie Pickler, as well...

Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Katharine McPhee... all good in my opinion.

Let's focus on something where they are all on level ground... How much I want to give it to all four of them.

That being said, as excellent as Breakaway and Some Hearts are, the annoyingness of McPhee's and Pickler's music offsets it.

Haven't heard of Pickler's work, but McPhee's self-entitled album is extremely solid in my opinion. Some very good songs on the album. And, I have no idea why I used "McPherson". Ugh.

Since I can see already that they will be left out in the pro Idol argument, we also got Fantasia, Rueben, Jennifer Hudson, and Tamyra Gray.

On topic though, I do like Underwood's voice. I haven't heard her album, but I saw her perform Some Hearts, and her performance at the Grammy's tonight was indeed solid.

I'm happy I don't know McPhee. I was getting worried that I knew too many AI winners.

I actually have this album and I like it as well. Except for, "Jesus Take The Wheel", because radio plays it repeatedly.

Even though American Idol is the reason she was discovered, you really can't praise American Idol because of artists like Ruben and Fantasia, they basically bombed. While artists like Daughtry and Kellie Pickler, whom didn't win the contest, are going to do well.

I LOVE Daughtry's cd, its great. Kellie's is good too, although a few of the songs are too country.

But, I'd argue that those two bombed for different reasons. Both Ruben and Fantasia are in the wrong genre.

                      R&B just doesn't sell anymore.

If you watched the Grammy's you can see what America focuses on the most. It's all about Rock, Alternative, and Country music. Those albums sell because those listeners buy.

It's no mistake that the more successful bunch of American Idol are rock/alternative or country singers.

Mary J. Blige won 3 Grammy's so you can't say R&B is dead at all, in fact it's bigger than ever.

The difference is Carrie Underwood is getting marketed and pushed harder than any of the others, you don't hear anything about Ruben anymore or Fantasia, but you still hear a lot about Kelly Clarkson and Carrie, that's what money behind a star will do for them especially when it comes from Clive Davis, who is not backing the others.

It also helps that Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson are both attractive women...

Exactly that too is a major factor.

Fantasia's album did very well for a debut artist, going platinum and all. Her single "I Believe" spent more weeks at #1 than an AI contestant up to that point. She also won 3 Billboard awards and was nominated for 4 Grammy's. It might not have been the crazy commercial success of Kelly Clarkson's second album, but it was a great debut album from an R&B artist. Just because Middle America is playing the record at their Labor Day barbeque's doesn't mean it was a bomb.

I will agree that with the hype coming from Rueben's win that his album wasn't that good. It sold well initially but I think they had him singing the wrong type of songs. I think we all expected love ballads in the vein of Luthor Vandross, but all we got was more of the same type of songs every other male R%B artists was doing at the time. It didn't reflect the "velvet teddy bear" image he got while on Idol and people didn't respond to it well.

Also, let's not pretend we are psychic here, let's wait until people like Daughtry and the rest you mentioned, "do well". Hell, even if they do do well, that's even more reason to praise AI. You're making the argument for me.
