Re: Microsoft Zune........Impressions After 4 months?

I'll check out the reverse sync, but I want to add the new music from my PC to the Zune, without overwriting the stuff already there.

And yes, this is the same PC, but I did reformat my hard drive and we moved, so we have a different cable modem (though the same router) as before.

      Zune Announcement on Monday?

Ironically, iLounge is the one announcing a "rumor" about an event in Redmond on Monday for an announcement related to Zune. We know something is coming soon. We are just not sure how much we are going to have from this annoucement. We were not that lucky this week with the May 1st annoucement limited to exclusive content from South Africa.

      ------------------------------------------------------

Please tell us that a new firmware update is coming soon to fix some issues and I'll become a happy camper again. If they can add,

-Fix the issues with Zune Software
      -Car integration would be neat

i'm interested in this announcement as well. I had an iPot last spring and sold it over the summer. I'm looking to pick one up again. Interested in the Zune also.

The Zune hardware is excellent, and very well built. The one thing that does suck and they need to fix some things in the firmware update with my list of issues, is the Zune Software.

I picked one up off of Woot. I had a video IPOD, but it was beginning to make a clunking sound (which my previous IPOD did before it cashed out). I like the functionality, but the software syncing has issues, that have already been addressed. I do like the unit itself.

Re: Microsoft Zune........Impressions After 4 months?

It doesn't look like there's a good impression thread so I'll bump this one 15 months after the fact, I guess no one else really has one of these hehe.

I was debating getting an iPod Classic or Zune 120 for Christmas and for a minute I decided to avoid both of them and get an iPhone in April. But after researching and actually messing around with an iPhone it was a pretty easy decision for me to avoid that as well.

So anyway, I was in Circuit City today since I had $150 credit at the store and I decided to get the Zune. My impressions seem to echo most other Zune owners; the device itself is absolutely awesome but the software and syncing process is pretty bad.

I've already had some problems adding songs to playlists, every now and then I will drag an album or artist into a playlist and it won't appear in the playlist - or I'll drag a file from Windows Explorer into the "Collection" part of the software and it will never show up. I also can't get any videos that aren't .wmv format to work. MP4, AVI and just about anything else you can imagine doesn't work. I Googled some more info on this and DL'd the free video converter but it didn't work on any of my files, kinda disappointing. I will rarely watch videos on this puppy but I would like to know how to use it properly and get a few favorites on there.

As for the device, I love this thing already, I haven't gotten good gauge on the battery life but it seems like that's the only advantage the iPod Classic has over this. The screen is big and clear as heck, the colors look very good in videos and on album art. The navigation is easy and cool, my only beef so far is that if you're scrolling through songs or whatever and need to adjust the volume you have to go back to the actual 'current song be played' screen to change it (at least as far as I can tell).

So after about six hours of playing around with the device and the software I'm one satisfied customer. It's pretty amazing how far MP3 players have come since I bought my Dell DJ four years ago. That cost $200 for 30GB with no video, color screen, album art, FM tuner, Marketplace, Smart playlist, etc. Hopefully the Zune will last me at least four years as well.

If anyone has any tips or suggestions that will help enjoy the Zune some more please let me know!

Thats strange about the videos. MP4 worked for me when I had one. AVI doesnt work for Apple or Zune players.

I told you it was the best hdd based player out there.

Yeah I def appreciate the heads up in the other thread, this was a pretty easy choice to buy instead of the iPod.

                    Here's the other thread> http://www.operationsports.com/forum...highlight=zune

Anyway, I've had mine going on a year when Christmas comes. I have the 80 gig and I enjoy it too. I have had a problem with running/working out with it though. It seems to start skipping if it's in constant motion (I had it on my arm). Then it has other problems like freezing and it got to the point where I had to send it in to M$ and they sent me a new one. But everything seemed fine when I put it on the waste of my shorts.

I do hate the software though. Especially considering I don't manage my music with it and don't like it's features either.

Re: Microsoft Zune........Impressions After 4 months?

I really enjoy it. I upgraded from a Creative Zen about a year ago and couldn't be happier.

The key, is turn off automatic sync on the program, it's just a complete mess when you do that, you delete a song it takes it off the Zune, you move the folder, it takes it off the player. Manual sync is great, find the folder drag it in and go from there.

The software has taken leaps in the past year though, when I first got it a lot of the program was sketchy, now it's working wonderfully. Great at finding album covers and song lists for albums for the organized type. Pretty good functionality.

The player itself has been great as well. I've had maybe 1-2 freezes in a year, no big scratches, I do have some dust under the glass but that's not a huge deal. FM is cool, I'm not a big radio listener though so that hasn't done a whole lot for me.

Also it has built-in games and I've taken quite a liking to playing a game of Checkers while in a boring class.

Playing those installed games KILL the battery let me tell you.

Also wireless sync is a godsend. especially since i seem to get a longer charge with the outlet charger

What do you mean by that? I haven't messed around with the wireless at all, can you actually transfer songs to your Zune via the wireless?

Can anyone tell me why mp4's I DL through iTunes work sporadically with the Zune? I try to drag/drop them and half the time it says invalid media type, this is annoying as hell.
