As long as prices don't go up, I'll welcome Sirius content on my XM. The NFL is cool, I'd hardly ever listen, as long as I don't lose baseball, I'm good.

Re: XM and Sirius Merger Official!

I might actually buy this if they merged them, but I think what is going to happen is they will merge, but only as a parent organization and each will remain as they are now. They could then cut cost by using some of the same channels on each and support cost, but still remain separate.Comment

Re: XM and Sirius Merger Official!

I'd definitely pick up satellite radio if this goes through.

At this point I obtain the daily Stern shows through other means, but if I was able to have the MLB broadcast, Stern, and all the other cool bonuses it'd be worth it.

Stern was talking about a merger a couple weeks ago on his show, and how the FCC might nix the deal. He was saying a possibility to get by that would be keep the same equipment, I guess XM and Sirius, so it doesn't make it a monopoly etc.“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. We’re talking about on the biggest stage, in New York, playing out of position and asked to hit fourth for the New York Yankees. I mean, that’s never been done.” - Sheffield on SheffieldComment

Re: XM and Sirius Merger Official!

 Some thoughts...

I am guessing Sirius and XM will try to push this through the FCC very quickly because this will put a HUGE dent in sales if consumers do not know what will happen in the future.

No way will the OTA radio providers want this merger to go through and they will use their insanely strong lobbying powers to stop it.

As for the monopoly issue: When Satellite radio first came out the FCC said there had to at least 2 competitors. The chairman, or a different high ranking FCC official, said in the last month or 2 that the competition rule could be "changed"University of Evansville Graduate

Verizon FiOS TV proves that buying both would be unnecessary, I can't really see Charlie Ergen wanting to cash out but it still makes a lot of sense for AT&T to have a have a satellite TV service. When E* tried to buy D* last time they quickly knew the deal wouldn't go through but it slowed News Corp from getting control of D* and let E* look at D*'s books from the inside and their internal operations.Comment

Re: XM and Sirius Merger Official!

 - what will happen is anyone's guess.. my thinking is that they will (hopefully) use XM signals, as they are much stronger, & easier to get, than Sirus....

also, what about the radios? will i need to go get a new radio now?

 yikes..Comment

Here's what I think they'll do (if it goes through)...

I think if you have Sirius, you'll keep the Sirius programming.

If you have XM, you'll keep the XM programming.

They'll release new hardware capable of receiving both and the monthly service fee will be slightly higher than it is now for each.PS4: aBayBates

Well, like RockyTop said.. I'll have a game on the TV but I'll actually listen to the Dolphins play. I don't know if XM has it but I listen to the NFL Channel on Sirius all the damn time.Comment

Re: XM and Sirius Merger Official!

One of my concerns about this is the "a la carte" style to choosing programming. While it sounds great, my fear is that they split up the programming into "buckets" that each has something you want, therefore you need to buy more of these "buckets" to get what you want and it costs you more. I like having all of the programming that Sirius offers with my $13 fee, and not having to pay more for the NFL (for example). I'm not sure if it will work that way, but that was one of my concerns after reading this.http://xmradio.mediaroom.com/index.p...ases&item=1423
 * Greater Programming and Content Choices -- The combined company is
committed to consumer choice, including offering consumers the ability
to pick and choose the channels and content they want on a more a la
carte basis. The combined company will also provide consumers with a
broader selection of content, including a wide range of commercial-free
music channels, exclusive and non-exclusive sports coverage, news,
talk, and entertainment programming. Together, XM and SIRIUS will be
able to improve on products such as real-time traffic and rear-seat
video and introduce new ones such as advanced data services including
enhanced traffic, weather and infotainment offerings.

Also, I have a feeling they will have a tough time with the SEC, but that is just a personal feeling.MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies
