    Prince

So, I've picked up five Prince albums over the last year, including a handful of bootlegs I got from a CD-R switch. Anyway, I was just curious what everybody thinks his best album is. Currently, I have Dirty Mind, Purple Rain, 1999, Sign 'O' The Times, and 3121. Personally, I have Purple Rain as his best with Sign 'O' The Times a very close second. 1999 hasn't really clicked with me yet since its so much more expansive compared to his other albums.

Also, does anybody have any impressions on his Sign 'O' The Times concert film?

I love prince! I also got into Prince over the last couple years (stole my gamertag from him!) after i bought and liked Musicology. I picked up Purple Rain, Sign o the Times, 1999, and 3121. I'd have to say Purple Rain is the best. Sign O The Times is also great and i really like musicology and 3121. I'm with you on 1999...I didn't like it too much.

Being a Michael Jackson fan, I'm not sure why I didn't get into Prince earlier. His music is awesome. I was prob scared by the content haha..

What do you think of "The Dance" on 3121? Isn't that song a masterpiece??

Sign 'O The Times is his best work IMO, the concert film is equally great, wait till you see Sheila E's drum solo. I have watched it thousands of times since it came out in 1987, and the music and production is still fresh to me.
Unfortunately it can only be found on VHS in the States, I did manage to get the European dvd however. Aside from the more popular albums 1999, Purple Rain etc. some of his more underated albums are Around the World in a day, Parade and Dirty Mind.

Controversy is a good album, I'm a fan of his work from his early years Dirty Mind, For You, Prince, Controversy, 1999, Purple Rain and Sign O' the times are my favorite albums. Great songs on those albums especially Dirty Mind.

Sign of the times/Purple Rain, pretty much take your pick. Being the prince fan that I am, I have every prince cd and the SOTT vhs concert(very good, especially Girlfriend, but he doesn't do Adore). I suggest that if you want some good prince go with the B-Sides, that is a 3 disc set that includes some songs you won't find anywhere else(like Cashmere, nothing compares to you, lonely christmas). Also, check out the most beautiful girl in the world cd, he does the same song like 8 different ways(the mustang mix is bangin!) Also, check out the scandalous suite(does the same song 3 different ways, if you are with a girl, it is great "mood" music) I like the classic prince better, but prince is still the man.

Purple Rain is the best album hands down. For some reason however, I liked Diamonds and Pearls, not sure why...

Just remember, there wouldn't be a Prince without Parliament-Funkadelic. Go buy all their CDs and you'll see what I mean, hopefully.

I'm kinda' partial to "Around the World in Day".

Raspberry Beret, The Ladder, and Condition of the Heart FTW.. Under the Cherry Moon had a few nice trax as well, including the best instrumental I've ever heard on the B-side of Mountains.

Without a doubt, Temptation was the baddest song on that album...well one of the baddest, I agree that Raspberry Beret was a hot one.

Remember te Raspberry Beret video? When he broke out the Liza Manelli doo and the cloud suit? Only Prince could pull that off so cold...only Prince. One of the top entertainers of all-time, no doubt...

QFT, I love that dvd. Shiela E was looking so good to me, and I had a crush on Sheena Easton when she performed You Got the Look with him. I still have to give Purple Rain the edge in terms of albums, but Sign 'O the Times was great.

you guys are making me want to run out and get his music. I like that he's not being as much a recluse as he was; really enjoyed his halftime show at the Super Bowl, and his performance at last year's Soul Train Music Awards with Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Yolanda Adams, and Indie Arie was amazing - I watch that over and over
