Quick Question For My Math Teachers

As I stated in the "What Teachers Really Make" thread, I now have a long-term sub spot teaching TP Statistics and CP Algebra I. Before, I was a "regular" sub so I would just pretty much have to baby sit a class for a day. Now, I have to do all the things the certified teachers do. By the way, I always felt that teachers were underpaid and now that I have to do all of the work that they do, I know it to be a FACT. They must be commended because it takes a considerable amount of your "personal" time to make yourself prepared for class.

Anyway, I was wondering if any math teachers on the boards could take a look at this test I made for the Algebra I (CP) class. It's on Unit II (Matrices). I'd like to know if you guys think it's okay.

Looks good. Questions are clear and understandable. Seems short for a test though, and you might want to throw something in about determinants.

I like how you have the True/False questions regarding matrix properties right before asking to carry out a computation. Looks good.

Maybe you could add a matrix equation in like this one:

        Ax+By=C

and ask them to determine what the C matrix is, given A,B, x, and y.

Well, from the district's pace guide, I was supposed to cover pgs 628-635 in the Algebra I textbook and even though I know determinants etc. they aren't covered.

So I just graded the test. I've got a few A's, a few B's, a few C's and some F's. I want to make sure each student understands this but I'm told I need to stay on the pace because there's an end of course test and the students need to keep moving towards that. Any suggestions to please both sides?

If kids are having trouble and genuinely want to learn the material, have them stay after school one day. Move on with the curriculum during class.
